Today we honor the Ati people, the original guardians of Boracay Island and the ancestral lands of Aklan. Long before our shores became known to the world, they walked these sands, cared for these waters, and passed down wisdom that lives on in their culture and traditions.

Their heritage is Boracayโ€™s heart. Their rights are our shared responsibility. Today, we celebrate their enduring spirit, thank them for their stewardship, and stand beside them in respect, solidarity, and gratitude.

We walk forward best when we walk together, honoring the past, upholding their rights, and protecting their home.

Every sea trip to and from Caticlan Port is canceled starting 12 noon today, August 9, due to rough seas brought by the southwest monsoon. Starlite Ferries and Montenegro Shipping Lines are among the operators affected.

The Philippine Ports Authority clarified it does not issue trip cancellations; sailings are automatically halted once the Philippine Coast Guard enforces a โ€œno sailโ€ policy. Shipping lines may also suspend trips independently, provided they comply with requirements set by the Maritime Industry Authority.

Passengers with bookings are advised to coordinate directly with their ferry line for rebooking or refunds. Keep checking official announcements for updates on when services may resume.

Two separate cases of lost property have been successfully returned to their rightful owners, thanks to the honesty of residents and quick work of the Malay Municipal Police Station.

E-trike driver Dionell Domingo turned over a lost iPhone 13, which officers tracked via iCloud and returned to owner Hann Panganiban. In another instance, police, security staff, and concerned residents worked together to recover a pouch holding roughly โ‚ฑ60,000, and handed it over to Hong Kong tourist Hoi Chui Mo.

Police Chief PLtCol. Orlando A. Carag Jr. praised everyone involved for their integrity. He urged the public to follow their lead by surrendering any found items to authorities, to help build a safer, more honest community for all.

It's easy to believe that having more will finally make us feel secure or satisfied. Yet Jesus reminds us that the true measure of life is not found in what we own but in our relationship with God and the way we love others. Contentment grows when gratitude becomes a daily habit instead of constantly chasing what we don't have. Possessions may provide comfort, but they can never replace lasting peace. Investing in God's kingdom leaves an eternal impact that money can never achieve. A rich life is ultimately measured by faith, generosity, and a heart that treasures what lasts forever.

Coast Guard Station Aklan announced the suspension of all trips by Lite Ferries and Montenegro Shipping Inc. as of 3:30 p.m., August 8, 2026. The cancellations come as strong to galeโ€‘force winds sweep through local waters, linked to Tropical Cyclone โ€œDolphinโ€.

Affected routes cover Caticlan Port in Malay to Roxas City, Batangas Port, and Kalibo, Aklan, plus all return trips. All vessels already cleared to sail must proceed immediately to designated shelter areas. Mariners are warned to exercise extreme caution and keep close watch on weather updates.

Operations will only resume once sea conditions stabilize and shipping lines confirm it is safe to run their scheduled trips. The Coast Guard called on all concerned parties to cooperate fully to ensure the safety of passengers, crew, and vessels at sea.

Malay Mayor, Tourism Officer Receive Ambassador of the Year Awards

Municipal Mayor Frolibar S. Bautista and Dr. Felix G. Delos Santos Jr., the municipality's Chief Tourism Operations Officer, were named recipients of tourism recognition awards during the 3rd Ambassador of the Year Award ceremony held August 7, 2026, at Novotel Manila Araneta City.

Bautista was named Malay-Boracay Ambassador of the Year, while Delos Santos received the LGU-Tourism Ambassador of the Year Award. The ceremony coincided with the 4th Travel Sale Expo Launching and 9th Global Travel Exchange Roadshow, organized by the Global Tourism Business Association (GTBA) in partnership with OneKlik Events, which recognizes individuals and organizations for their contributions to tourism development.

Organizers cited Bautista's role in advancing sustainable tourism initiatives and maintaining Malay's standing as one of the country's leading tourism destinations. Under his administration, the municipal government has pursued programs centered on responsible tourism, environmental protection, and community involvement in local tourism planning.

Delos Santos was recognized for coordinating tourism programs across the municipality and building cooperation among tourism stakeholders in both Malay and Boracay.

Neither official attended the ceremony in person, as both Bautista and Delos Santos were unable to make the trip due to weather-related travel conditions. Their awards were received on their behalf by Dindo F. Salazar, chairman of the Boracay Foundation, Inc.

Local officials noted that the recognitions extend beyond the two award recipients, pointing to the broader work of the Local Government Unit of Malay, the Malay Tourism Office, and tourism stakeholders in sustaining the island's profile as a destination.

She moved to Boracay for the sunsets. She stayed to save its cats.

This International Cat Day, we're sharing her story: the late-night rescue calls, the leap of faith that became the Boracay Cat Adoption Treatment Sanctuary, and why every purr makes the struggle worth it.

She's also kicking off free Cat Yoga & Coffee every Friday starting Aug 28, because sometimes the best way to help is to show up and sit with them.

All trips operated by Starlite Ferries out of Caticlan Jetty Port in Malay have been suspended starting August 8. The move follows forecasts of strong to galeโ€‘force winds tied to the current weather disturbance. Affected routes include trips to and from Roxas, Batangas, and Santa Clara in Batangas City.

Coast Guard Station Aklan issued the advisory at 7:30 a.m. Vessels already docked were directed to secure their vessels and crew immediately. Mariners are also told to stay alert for sudden shifts in sea conditions. Operations will only resume once weather clears and shipping lines confirm safe travel.

Travelers are advised to check official updates from the Coast Guard and their chosen ferry operators for further changes.
