📖 5 LESSONS FROM THE LIFE OF DEMAS

"For Demas hath forsaken me, having loved this present world..."
📖 2 Timothy 4:10 (KJV)

🎯 INTRODUCTION

Demas is one of the saddest examples in Scripture. He began as a fellow laborer with Paul (Philemon 1:24; Colossians 4:14), yet he ended up forsaking the apostle because he loved this present world.

From a Dispensational perspective,
Demas was not an example of losing salvation, but of losing usefulness, testimony, reward, and fellowship in ministry. His life warns believers of the dangers of worldliness during the Dispensation of Grace.
📖 Key Text: 2 Timothy 4:10

1️⃣ DETACH FROM THE WORLD'S AFFECTIONS
"Don't Love This Present World"
📖 2 Timothy 4:10; 1 John 2:15-17

A. The World's Pleasures Are Passing
Its lusts are temporary.
Its attractions are deceptive.
Its glory quickly fades.
📖 1 John 2:17
B. The World's Priorities Are Perverted
It promotes self above God.
It values pleasure above holiness.
It seeks earth above eternity.
📖 Romans 12:2
C. The World's Path Is Perilous
Worldliness weakens spiritual growth.
Compromise destroys testimony.
Carnality hinders service.
📖 Galatians 6:7-8
Dispensational Application:
Believers are seated in heavenly places and should live with an eternal perspective.
📖 Ephesians 2:6

2️⃣ ENDURE IN THE WORK OF THE LORD
"Don't Quit Before the Finish Line"
📖 Hebrews 3:14; 1 Corinthians 15:58

A. Endure Through Difficulties
Ministry involves trials.
Opposition is inevitable.
Faithfulness is required.
📖 2 Timothy 3:12
B. Endure Through Discouragements
Not everyone will remain faithful.
Some will forsake the work.
Christ remains faithful.
📖 2 Timothy 2:13
C. Endure Through Delays
Rewards are future.
Results may not be immediate.
Labor is not in vain.
📖 1 Corinthians 15:58
Dispensational Application:
God rewards faithful service at the Judgment Seat of Christ.
📖 2 Corinthians 5:10

3️⃣ MAKE CHRIST YOUR MASTER PRIORITY
"Seek the Eternal Above the Earthly"
📖 Matthew 6:33

A. Prioritize the Saviour
Love Christ supremely.
Follow Christ wholeheartedly.
Serve Christ faithfully.
📖 Colossians 3:1-2
B. Prioritize the Scriptures
Study rightly divided truth.
Grow in doctrine.
Stand in sound teaching.
📖 2 Timothy 2:15
C. Prioritize the Service
Be available for ministry.
Be active in evangelism.
Be committed to discipleship.
📖 Romans 12:11
Dispensational Application:
Christ should occupy the throne of every believer's life.
📖 Philippians 1:21

4️⃣ AVOID THE LOVE OF MONEY
"Materialism Can Mislead"
📖 1 Timothy 6:9-10

A. Riches Can Distract
Wealth can become an idol.
Prosperity can produce pride.
Possessions can replace purpose.
📖 Luke 12:15
B. Riches Can Deceive
Money promises security.
Wealth promises satisfaction.
Neither can save the soul.
📖 Mark 8:36
C. Riches Can Destroy
Many have wandered from faithfulness.
Many have lost their testimony.
Many have pierced themselves with sorrows.
📖 1 Timothy 6:10
Dispensational Application:
Grace believers should be content in Christ.
📖 Philippians 4:11-13

5️⃣ STAY STEADFAST IN MINISTRY
"Remain Faithful Until Christ Comes"
📖 1 Corinthians 15:58

A. Stand Firm in Doctrine
Hold fast the truth.
Defend the Gospel.
Rightly divide the Word.
📖 2 Timothy 1:13
B. Stand Firm in Duty
Continue preaching.
Continue serving.
Continue witnessing.
📖 2 Timothy 4:2
C. Stand Firm in Devotion
Love the Lord's appearing.
Await the Blessed Hope.
Finish your course.
📖 2 Timothy 4:7-8
Dispensational Application:
Our motivation is the imminent return of Christ for His Body.
📖 Titus 2:13

📢 CONCLUSION

Demas began as a fellow laborer but ended as a forsaker. His story reminds us that success in ministry is not measured by how well we start, but by how faithfully we finish.
Many begin the race. Few finish faithfully.

Paul could say:
📖 "I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith." (2 Timothy 4:7)
Demas loved the present world. Paul loved the appearing of Christ.
The question is: Which do we love most?

🙏 CALL TO ACTION

1. EXAMINE YOUR HEART
Is the world pulling you away?
Is Christ still first?
Are your priorities eternal?
📖 Lamentations 3:40
2. EMBRACE YOUR CALLING
Serve where God placed you.
Use your spiritual gifts.
Be faithful today.
📖 Romans 12:6-8
3. EXPECT THE SAVIOUR
Live ready.
Serve diligently.
Watch hopefully.
📖 Titus 2:13
