Fraudsters can now pose as your loved ones by “cloning” their voice.

With the development of AI, fraudsters now only need as little as 15 seconds of audio from your loved ones in order to replicate it. This is how fraudsters can pose as other people — they clone voices using AI to make their schemes more convincing.

They may use your friend’s or a relative’s cloned voice, call you in the middle of the night, and induce fear by stating that something bad is happening to them. Then the fraudster, posing as your loved one, may be insistent that you transfer crypto in order to get them out of trouble.

Here are some red flags you need to look out for 👀:

🚩 They induce panic, making it easier for them to manipulate you.
🚩 They don’t allow you to hang up or end the call, effectively preventing you from calling anyone else.
🚩 An unclear voice, cry, static, and other noises are added in the background to sound more convincing.
🚩 A second person joins the call and poses as a person in authority demanding a transfer of funds.

To stay guarded, you need to:

✅ Compose yourself first, panic only leads to poor decision making.
✅ End the call then immediately and try calling your loved one on their own mobile number or social media account as soon as possible.
✅ Establish either a secret question or a “passphrase” that only you and your loved ones know in case of emergencies.
✅ Remember that crypto is not acceptable in posting bail in any court of competent jurisdiction or official law enforcement agencies.
✅ Report suspicious activities to PDAX at [email protected].
