𝐍𝐄𝐖𝐒 𝐔𝐏𝐃𝐀𝐓𝐄 | 𝘿𝙎𝙒𝘿 𝙨𝙪𝙥𝙥𝙤𝙧𝙩𝙨 𝙨𝙩𝙪𝙙𝙚𝙣𝙩-𝙡𝙚𝙖𝙙𝙚𝙧𝙨 𝙥𝙚𝙧𝙨𝙤𝙣𝙖𝙡 𝙙𝙚𝙫’𝙩

The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) provided support on the welfare of student-leaders of Masbate National Comprehensive High School through a Youth Development Session (YDS) conducted on September 9.

Following the theme “Discover the Spark Within, Share the Light Beyond,” the session aimed to widen learners’ access to new knowledge and skills that support their development on self discovery and personal growth.

To help learners better understand the purpose of the program, resource speakers were invited to tackle relevant topics that aligns with the goal and theme.

DSWD Project Development Officer II Mayette Millares spearheaded the first discussion titled “Breathe Away Your Stress.”

She expanded the students’ knowledge on the causes and types of stress, its effects on individuals, and healthy ways to manage it.

“Handling stress is not a matter of getting rid of it entirely. It's about learning how to ride waves and taking charge,” she highlighted.

During her talk, Millares stated that a person cannot get rid of stress, but can manage it instead.
In sequel to the first discussion, Project Development Officer II Janah Poldo took over the next session focused on ways of coping with stress from failure .

“Life is a matter of attitude. Ikaw mismo ang p’wedeng mag-control sa emotion mo regarding to that particular solution,” she stated.

(Life is a matter of attitude. You control your emotion regarding a particular solution.)

Poldo emphasized that a person’s reaction to failure solely depends on themselves.

Furthermore, DSWD plans to conduct 4 YDS sessions for the school year with a student led action plan after every meeting.

Accountancy, Business, and Management (ABM) and General Academic Strand (GAS) students of Masbate National Comprehensive High School (MNCHS) sharpened their business ownership skills through setting up stalls in the 7th In-Campus Entrepreneurship Bazaar 2026 on September 2-4.

Aligned with the theme, “Empowering learners today, creating entrepreneurship for tomorrow,” students prepared stands featuring products made by themselves and planned a music caravan.

The bazaar was organized by the Accountancy, Business and Management Association of Junior Accountants, Young Entrepreneurship Association, Federated ABM, and ABM teachers.

𝐒𝐂𝐈-𝐓𝐄𝐂𝐇 | 𝙎𝙩𝙪𝙙𝙚𝙣𝙩 𝙎𝙘𝙞𝙚𝙣𝙩𝙞𝙨𝙩𝙨 win 𝘼𝙬𝙖𝙧𝙙𝙨 𝙞𝙣 𝙩𝙝𝙚 2026 𝘿𝙎𝙏𝙁, 𝙍𝙤𝙗𝙤𝙩𝙞𝙘𝙨 𝙊𝙡𝙮𝙢𝙥𝙞𝙘𝙨

Young researchers from Masbate National Comprehensive High School (MNCHS), City of Masbate Science High School, and Jose Zurbito Senior Elementary School bagged medals at the 2026 Division Science and Technology Fair and Robotics Olympics held at the Gaisano Capital Masbate Event Center on September 7 and 8.

Throughout the two-day gathering, students from the Science, Technology, and Engineering program and learners from the Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics curriculum defended studies in multiple research categories, vied in automated robotics competitions, and showcased display boards.

Addressing the competitors, Justin Theodore Villamor, a 2025 National Science and Technology Fair qualifier, cited the line, "Victory belongs to the most persevering," emphasizing that true success comes to those who refuse to give up in the face of research challenges.

Guided by the theme "Beyond the Horizon: Unleashing Science and Technology for Possibilities yet to be Discovered," MNCHS teams dominated the event—securing first place in RoboSoccer, ten gold awards for Best Research, five Best Presenter recognitions, and five Best Display Board accolades.

The winning contenders will now refine their projects before advancing to represent the Masbate Division at the 2026 Regional Science and Technology Fair and Robotics Olympics this December.

Masbate National Comprehensive High School (MNCHS) Junior High School Mother Mathematics Club and the Mathematics Department highlighted students' statistical skills through the 5th Math-Amazing Camp: MNCHS Mathematics Festival.

The event took place on September 3-4, which featured the showcasing of Math Devices, Games, and Puzzles; Quiz Bee for Grades 7-10, and e-Modulo Art Design Competition.

The organizers aimed to showcase the students’ knowledge, creativity, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills in Mathematics.

National Heroes Day is a day of celebration to commemorate the Filipinos that became the reason as to why the Philippines stands as the proud nation it is today.

After centuries of slaughter and fighting for freedom of the people, this holiday stands as the symbol for each of these individuals’ sacrifices to protect the people and the nation. Wounded humanity to preserve dignity in the historical ingenuity.

In every National Heroes Day, may we continue to commemorate their fortitude and courage to make these sacrifices. The different roles of each hero acknowledged, but with only one goal — to serve the people and protect the nation.

Senior High School students of Masbate National Comprehensive High School (MNCHS) participated in the GAD symposium titled “Building Safe Schools: The Role of Students in Preventing Violence, Bullying, and Crime,” at the MNCHS Quadrangle on August 20.

Learners were educated on their role in preventing violence, bullying, and crime and in promoting a safer school environment as the symposium campaigns for peace and safety in schools.

Lindsey C. Cortes, G11, shared her realization after the said program.

“I realized that drugs aren't the right way to escape reality. They look like a quick fix to many problems, but the truth is, they cause more harm than good to anyone.”

During the talk, CSWD Officer and Balay Pag-asa Case Manager, Katrina L. Orticio led the first discussion about R.A No. 9344, or the Juvenile Justice and Welfare Act.

She discussed children at risk and children in conflict with the law, while also addressing concerns surrounding violence among young people, emphasizing the importance of awareness and prevention.

“Everything we do has consequences, so always do the right thing. The law protects you but it also holds you accountable,” Orticio added.

During her talk, Police Master Sergeant, Women and Children Protection Investigation, Analiza Arsenio highlighted the importance of making responsible choices and staying away from illegal drugs, outlining R.A No. 10627, or the Anti-Bullying Act of 2013, and R.A No. 9165, or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.

"Ang tunay na lakas ng isang kabataan ay wala sa dahas, kundi sa kanyang kakayahan magpasaya ng tama,” Arsenio said.

Assistant Police Community Affairs and Development Police Non-Commissioned Officer, Pat Deniz A. Cañete proceeded with a session on Terrorism in the Philippines. Cañete warns the students not to join organizations such as the New People’s Army (NPA).

"Yung pinapangako ng mga NPA na suporta sa pamilya, wala naman. Lolokohin lang naman kayo ng mga yan," Cañete quotes from a former NPA member.

Lastly, Project Development Officer I Youth Formation Development, Rose Ann N. Oliva led the third session about “Power of Self-Control.”

Oliva highlighted self-control as an important skill in making responsible decisions, managing one's action and emotions, and avoiding situations that may lead to conflict or harm.

She further emphasized the importance of self-regulation, seeking help when facing challenges, and avoiding drugs for entertainment or curiosity.

Grade 11 learners participated in the morning session, whereas the Grade 12 students were accompanied during the afternoon.

In sequel to the said symposium, Junior High School grade levels, Alternative Learning System students and night class are scheduled to attend a similar symposium dated August 24-26.

The power of the people have always persevered, and even through passing times, it always will.

Ninoy Aquino Day commemorates the 1983 assassination of former Senator Benigno “Ninoy” Aquino Jr., an event that catalyzed the opposition movement and led to the 1983 EDSA People Power Revolution. Serving as a constant reminder of the power of the people continue to subjugate the unjust.

This holiday reminds the world of the people’s revolt against Marcos’ dictatorship that had been united by the assassination of the former senator. This day continues to symbolize the revolutionary movements that occur when forces are joined in to fight for freedom.

Mother Social Studies Club (MSSC) spearheaded the opening of the ASEAN Month Celebration at Masbate National Comprehensive High School (MNCHS) on August 7, 2026, launching a month-long series of activities that promote cultural appreciation, regional unity, in line with this year's theme, "Navigating Our Future Together."

The celebration formally commenced with the ceremonial entrance of the national flags of the ASEAN member states, carried by the school's Boy Scouts, symbolizing solidarity among Southeast Asian nations and setting the tone for the month-long observance.

Shaun Vinz Fredrick S. Bien, President of the Mother Social Studies Club (MSSC), expressed his hopes for the successful implementation of the month-long activities and emphasized the organization's commitment to inclusivity.

"We expect na tanan ma-execute san well and for the success of the event hanggang closing ceremony, also promote inclusivity lalo na sa aton SNED learners, ALS and Night Class," Bien said.

The celebration will feature a series of activities designed to deepen students' appreciation of ASEAN culture, including a Quiz Bee, Essay Writing Contest, Poster-Making Contest, Spot the Country, Scavenger Hunt, the "Go for a Greener Compre!" Clean-up Drive, and the culminating closing ceremony.

Rosalie M. Lubaton, Head Teacher III, formally declared the opening of the celebration, marking the start of the month-long observance. Joining the program were Mark Bryan B. Loterte, Education Program Supervisor for Araling Panlipunan, Principal IV Marife A. Cañares, and other school officials.

In her message, Cañares underscored the importance of ensuring that Special Needs Education (SNED) learners, Alternative Learning System (ALS) learners, and Night Class students actively participate in the celebration. Her call for inclusivity reaffirmed the school's commitment to fostering unity by giving every learner the opportunity to take part in the activities and experience the spirit of the ASEAN community.
