HYPERTENSION AWARENESS MONTH โค๏ธ๐ฉบ
May is a reminder for every Filipino to โKnow Your Numbersโ and take action against hypertensionโa growing public health concern in the country.
Hypertension, or high blood pressure, is often called the โsilent killerโ because it may show no symptoms but can lead to serious conditions like heart disease, stroke, and kidney problems.
๐ In the Philippines, 1 in 10 adults (20โ59 years old) has elevated blood pressure, and the risk increases with age.
In CAR, cases are risingโhighlighting how lifestyle factors like poor diet, physical inactivity, and stress contribute to this growing burden.
๐ฅ Good news? Hypertension is preventable and manageable.
Simple daily choices can protect your heart:
โ Reduce sodium intake (less than 2,000 mg/day)
โ Limit processed and fatty foods
โ Eat more fruits, vegetables, and whole grains
โ Stay active and maintain a healthy lifestyle
โ Monitor your blood pressure regularly
๐ก Small changes today can lead to a healthier tomorrow. Read the full article in the comments below. ๐

Phosphorus is one of the most confusing nutrients for people with kidney disease.
You might hear:
โ avoid dairy
โ avoid beans
โ avoid nuts
โ avoid chocolate (๐ข)
โฆbut thatโs only part of the story.
The biggest issue for many CKD patients isnโt natural phosphorus in foods.
Itโs phosphate additives in processed foods.
And those are much harder for your kidneys to handle.
Learning how to spot them can make a huge difference.
If you want help identifying low-phosphorus foods and hidden additives check out my article at https://www.plantpoweredkidneys.com/low-phosphorus-foods/

Many people commonly refer to both as "coconut". While that's technically true, theyโre not interchangeable when it comes to usage in everyday conversation or writing.
"Buko" is about the young, green coconut that has soft and tender meat and usually the one we often use to produce refreshing juices and soft, tender meat.
On the other hand, "Niyog", is the mature coconut that has hard meat and brown shell which is used for grating and cooking famous Filipino dishes such as ginataan.
For better comprehension, the image below shows a clear differences between the two!
