For years, they poured their late nights, passion, and uncompromising principles into every article, page, layout, photo, and story. Beyond the headlines and organization milestones, we celebrate their relentless hard work and profound dedication they offered to the PUPSMB community. As they step out of the newsroom and into the wider world, may their pens remain sharp, their voices steadfast, and their hearts forever anchored in the pursuit of truth.

๐๐๐ง๐๐ฅ๐๐ฅ๐ฌ | Runaway Brides
The special day is near, and if I could put on warm socks to chase away these cold feet, I would. Any day now, Iโll stand in front of everyone, wearing my white dress and shining shoes. All of them will clap for me as I walk down the aisle, and I only want to see one thingโa smile on my parentsโ faces on that very day. The moment theyโve been waiting for, because at last, the once silly little girl is now a fine young woman of her own.
But after this, I will be on my own. And sometimes, it keeps me awake to think of my happiness. Will I be fulfilled after this? Or will I suffer the regret others had?
At one point, I thought of becoming a runaway brideโwe have thought of it. Once I have held the title, thereโs no turning back. And in every title, thereโs a responsibility in it. We question our abilities, whether we are capable of carrying the title, of becoming the person the future demands us to beโwhether we can be a good wife and a caring mother in the future weโre bound to build.
But this ainโt a wedding, and I never dreamt of being a wife this soon. This is the end of my pen and paper, because on that day, Iโll bow in front of everyone and show the world the diploma in my hand. Years of perseverance and passion.
Will I be a great woman and a caring grown-up in the future Iโm bound to build? The weight of being on your own, with eyes watching in every step you take, and the weariness of what your heart really wants. Who knows, what do I know?
At least, I know one thingโI never want to be a runaway bride.
I never dreamt of running away from what the future has to offer for a fresh graduate as me. Itโs time to open new doors, even without having the slightest idea whatโs on the other side of it.
After all, perhaps growing up was never about knowing where the path leads us, it was about having the courage to walk there anyway.

๐ข๐ฃ๐๐ก๐๐ข๐ก | ๐ฅ๐ฒ๐๐ถ๐น๐ถ๐ฒ๐ป๐ฐ๐, ๐ฆ๐๐ถ๐น๐น?
As floods continue to rise above homes and politiciansโ pockets continue to bulge, there is a dangerous nuisance hidden in the word ๐ฟ๐ฒ๐๐ถ๐น๐ถ๐ฒ๐ป๐ฐ๐โa word associated with enduranceโas Filipinos continue to break through the suffering despite incompetence of the government. Is resilience a word to describe Filipino strength, or is it a patch of tolerance for the negligence of those who were supposed to help us survive through crises?
Rooted in the โbayanihanโ mentality, Filipinos reaped undeniable resilience from what their ancestors sowed centuries ago as the result of foreign colonizers, epidemics, natural disasters, and whatever human greed has come into. Parts of our culture are the byproducts of thousand years-long bouncing-backs: from the way we recycle leftover food into new dishes, to the way we make ourselves entertained despite situations becoming more devastating than what our mental capacity could carry. Through systemic adaptation we continue to make efficient survival skills.
Resilience isn't entirely bad because it mirrors flexibility and adaptability of Filipinos in any situation. However, those in power may seem to enjoy our leniency far too much.
Trinidad in 2023 on a perception study about resilience points out that Filipinos get strength from their familiesโnot because of the abundance of survival resources but for the emotional cohesion they latch on to survive monthly calamities even if the risks will drag them to a zero-situation. We're globally known as family-oriented individuals who lock arms with our loved ones to endure collective suffering. However, the emotional support our families give may not be enough to fill the gaps that are still evident among localities in the Philippines, which contribute to a continuous drawback in disaster and risk management. Despite continuous plans and coping mechanisms, the resilience Filipinos possess may conceal greater issues that made us use the word to tolerate them.
๐ง๐ต๐ฒ ๐ณ๐น๐ผ๐ผ๐ฑ ๐ฐ๐ผ๐ป๐๐ฟ๐ผ๐น ๐ฝ๐ฟ๐ผ๐ท๐ฒ๐ฐ๐ ๐๐ฐ๐ฎ๐ป๐ฑ๐ฎ๐น ๐ถ๐ ๐ป๐ผ๐ ๐ฎ 2025 โ๐๐ฟ๐ฒ๐ป๐ฑโโit is an exposรฉ about the greed and irresponsibility of those who keep it hidden for years. Contractors, congressmen, and parties were named among those who accumulated millions to billions of budget allocated to flood mitigation and public safety. The safety of even the smallest communities are in their hands, but none of them received long term help other than โayudaโ and evacuation centers serving as band aids to the growing cancer of corruption.
More than 15 tropical cyclones have hit the Philippines along with a few Low Pressure Areas accompanying them. But still, over 3.7 million people were affected by cyclones Luis and Maymay alone across 10 regions and beyond. If it was for the resilience of Filipinos, won't they live safer lives throughout greater storms?
This cruel situation reminds me of the discourse on the correlation of hard work and wealth where the garbage system doesn't reward the persistent, but gives them nothing but a hand-to-mouth experience. It's eerily similar to the situation of a million families who constantly get stranded in above head-leveled waters caused by poor and unfinished flood control infrastructures and short term solutions. Do we have to keep adjusting ourselves if
