Program PaG-UBAY Strengthens Home-School Partnership for Kindergarten Learners in Region VI

ILOILO CITY — The Department of Education (DepEd) Region VI is currently implementing Program PaG-UBAY: Parents and Guardians Upholding Bayanihan to Assist the Young in kindergarten classes for School Year 2026–2027, reinforcing the essential role of parents and guardians as active partners in the education and development of young learners.

The program derives its name from the Hiligaynon term pag-ubay, which means “to guide” or “to be alongside.” Rooted in local culture, the concept reflects the values of togetherness, support, and a shared journey—principles that are especially important during a child’s formative years.
Recognizing the significant influence of family involvement in early childhood education, Program PaG-UBAY encourages parents and guardians to become more actively engaged in their children's daily learning experiences. Through the initiative, volunteers support teachers and learners by providing assistance in classroom activities and routines, helping create a nurturing, inclusive, and learner-centered environment.

The program highlights DepEd Region VI’s commitment to culturally grounded and community-driven educational initiatives that recognize parents and guardians not only as supporters of education but also as co-educators and partners in developing young learners. It promotes meaningful collaboration among teachers, families, and communities to ensure that every kindergarten learner receives the support needed to succeed academically, socially, and emotionally.
Guided by the spirit of Bayanihan and the value of pakigbahin or shared responsibility, Program PaG-UBAY aims to strengthen home-school-community partnerships and ensure that no child is left behind during the critical stage of early childhood development. The initiative envisions empowered parent and guardian volunteers serving as teacher-supports, learning companions, and child development advocates who contribute to school readiness, improved learner participation, and enhanced foundational skills.

As part of its implementation, schools have established systems for the recruitment, selection, orientation, and scheduling of PaG-UBAY volunteers while ensuring compliance with child protection policies and standards. Volunteers assist in preparing learning materials, supporting classroom routines and activities, promoting health and hygiene practices, and helping maintain an organized learning environment under the supervision of kindergarten teachers.
Beyond classroom support, the program fosters stronger relationships among parents, teachers, and school communities through open communication, mutual respect, and shared accountability. It also promotes volunteerism as a meaningful contribution to early childhood education and overall school development.

Now being implemented across kindergarten classes in Region VI, Program PaG-UBAY serves as a testament to the belief that education thrives when families, schools, and communities work together. By walking alongside learners during their earliest years of schooling, parents and guardians help lay a strong foundation for lifelong learning and success.
