Highlighted by the Australian Government as “Philippine ship makes history in Sydney,” BRP Diego Silang (FFG-07) shattered a historic barrier during Exercise Kakadu 2026, becoming the first Philippine Navy warship ever to sail into Sydney Harbour.

The Philippine Navy advances its modernization as its third Landing Platform Dock prepares for launch at PT PAL Indonesia in Surabaya. Once operational, it will strengthen amphibious operations, disaster response, logistics, and maritime security across the archipelago.

The addition of this powerful warship significantly strengthens the Navy’s ability to safeguard the nation’s territorial waters, conduct long-range maritime patrols, and respond decisively to emerging security threats.

A sister ship to BRP Rajah Sulayman (PS-20), the newly commissioned vessel was formally inducted into service during ceremonies at Philippine Navy headquarters in Manila. Its arrival marks another step in the modernization of the fleet, enhancing the country’s maritime presence and reinforcing its resolve to defend national sovereignty, protect vital sea lanes, and maintain a strong and credible deterrent force in Philippine waters.

The installation of the engine for the Philippines’ first F-35 fighter jet sounds remarkable and inspiring. However, the bigger question is whether this will truly become a reality, considering that the country still faces significant challenges, including persistent corruption that has long hindered progress in many sectors.

I extend my deepest sympathy to my countrymen in General Santos City and to all Filipinos across the Philippines who have been affected by the magnitude 7.8 earthquake. My thoughts are with those who are injured, displaced, or grieving, as well as the families who are facing uncertainty and loss in the aftermath of this powerful disaster. In this difficult time, I hope for strength, resilience, and unity among our people as communities come together to recover and rebuild.

I hope the Philippines will one day acquire or develop a capability similar to the Visby-class corvette—an advanced stealth warship built for littoral operations and coastal defense. Developed by Saab⁠ for the Swedish Navy, it features a low-signature design that reduces radar detectability. The vessel is designed for multi-role missions, including surface warfare, anti-submarine warfare, and mine countermeasure operations, making it a highly capable asset for modern maritime security.
