During Su***de Prevention Month, let us remind one another of something important: you are not alone.

There may be moments when problems feel overwhelming, when it seems difficult to explain what you are going through, or when you feel that no one could understand. But you deserve to be heard, supported, and cared for. Reaching out to a trusted person is not a sign of weakness—it is a meaningful step toward receiving support.

Being there for someone can also start with something simple: listen without judgment, ask how they are doing, take their feelings seriously, and help connect them with a trusted adult or mental health professional when needed. The World Health Organization's 2026 campaign, “Changing the Narrative on Su***de", encourages compassionate conversations and reducing the stigma around asking for help.

Let us build a school community where no learner feels that they have to carry difficult moments by themselves. Check on your friends. Listen to one another. Speak with kindness. Reach out when you need support.

You are not alone. Your feelings matter. Your life matters. There are people who care, and help is available.

LRPO JOINS THE IEC CAMPAIGN AND ENVIRONMENTAL SYMPOSIUM

The Learner Rights and Protection Office (LRPO) of Valencia National High School (VNHS) proudly participated in the Information, Education, and Communication (IEC) Campaign and Environmental Symposium organized by the Barangay Poblacion Ecological Solid Waste Management Council (BESWMC) on September 9, 2026, at the Valencia City Cultural Center and Gymnasium.

The activity emphasized the importance of proper waste segregation, responsible waste disposal, recycling, and environmental protection, while encouraging the youth to become active stewards of the environment.

As advocates for learners' rights and welfare, the LRPO supports initiatives that promote not only a safe and responsible learning community, but also a clean, sustainable, and healthy environment for everyone.

Together, let us turn awareness into action and inspire every learner to become a responsible environmental steward.

The Learner Rights and Protection Office of Valencia National High School, together with the CRC Child Rights Council, PopDev Population Development Club, Sanghaya Club, and DIWA (Diverse Independent Women in Action), successfully participated in the “Sigaw Mindanaw: Para sa Kalikasan, Laban sa Katiwalian, at Para sa Magandang Kinabukasan” program.

The activity served as a meaningful opportunity for our learners to strengthen their voices, deepen their understanding of child rights and protection, and take part in initiatives that promote environmental stewardship, good governance, civic responsibility, and a better future.

Successful Meeting Accomplished!

The Learner Rights and Protection Office (LRPO) successfully conducted the Teen Centers Conference on Duties, Functions, and Advocacy, bringing together the officers of the Child Rights Council (CRC), Population and Development (PopDev) Club, SANGHAYA Club, and Diverse Independent Women in Action (DIWA) Club.

The conference served as an opportunity to strengthen the leadership, responsibilities, and advocacy of our student officers as they continue to promote a safe, inclusive, and learner-centered school community. Thank you to everyone who contributed to the success of this meaningful activity.

What is Pax Silica?

Pax Silica is a U.S.-led technological initiative announced in April 2026 with the participation of the Philippines. It aims to strengthen global supply chains for artificial intelligence (AI), semiconductors, critical minerals, and digital infrastructure.

The word Pax is derived from the Latin word for "peace," while Silica refers to silicon dioxide, a key material used in the production of semiconductors and microchips.

Who are the members of Pax Silica?

Participating countries include the United States, Japan, South Korea, Australia, Singapore, the United Kingdom, Israel, and the Philippines. Other participating countries reportedly include Finland, Sweden, Qatar, and India.

Why is the Philippines important to Pax Silica?

The Philippines possesses significant deposits of critical minerals, including chromium, copper, cobalt, and nickel, which are essential for the development of advanced technologies.

As part of the country's participation in Pax Silica, the Philippine government has allocated 1,619 hectares of land in New Clark City, Tarlac, for the development of an AI industrial hub.

What could be affected?

Natural Resources
The AI industrial hub is expected to require substantial quantities of minerals such as nickel, cobalt, chromite, and copper for semiconductor and technology manufacturing. This could increase demand for mining and the extraction of natural resources.

Water and Energy
Data centers and semiconductor facilities require large amounts of water for cooling systems and significant energy to maintain continuous operations.

What concerns have been raised about Pax Silica?

Transparency
Questions have been raised regarding the availability of information about the project's implementation, agreements, and its potential effects on Filipinos.

Distribution of Benefits
Some have questioned whether the project's economic benefits, including jobs and investment opportunities, will primarily benefit Filipinos or foreign companies.

Technological advancement is important, but many believe it should be balanced with the protection of the country's natural resources, environment, and the rights and welfare of Filipinos. Sustainable progress should ensure that development today does not compromise the well-being of future generations.
