In the 1980s, Passu and the surrounding region were still largely underdeveloped, with limited infrastructure and only a few shops where people could purchase essential daily-use items.

One of those shops was located in Passu, Hunza. In 1987, a tourist from the UK visited Hunza and, while staying in Passu, stopped by this small local shop. To his surprise and delight, he found almost everything he needed there even in such a remote part of Pakistan.

Impressed by the shop and its variety of goods, he suggested naming it “Harrods,” after the world-famous department store in London. He even personally wrote the name “Harrods” on the shop’s signboard.

Remarkably, the shop is still operating today under the same name, “Harrods.”

A small shop, a memorable visitor, and a story that has lasted for nearly four decades. ❤️
