Understanding Uric Acid Levels

Uric acid is a natural waste product formed when the body breaks down substances called purines, which are found in certain foods and drinks.

Normally, uric acid dissolves in the blood and is removed through the kidneys. However, when levels become too high, crystals can form in joints and tissues.

High uric acid levels may be associated with:

• Joint pain or tenderness • Swelling, especially in the big toe • Kidney stones • Reduced joint mobility

Factors that can influence uric acid levels include:

🔹 Diet and hydration 🔹 Body weight 🔹 Kidney function 🔹 Genetics 🔹 Certain medications

Healthy lifestyle habits such as staying hydrated, maintaining a balanced diet and regular physical activity can help support overall well-being.

Understanding your health markers is an important step toward making informed health decisions.

Could Iron Deficiency Be Affecting Your Energy?

Iron is an essential mineral that helps your body carry oxygen and support everyday energy levels. When iron levels are low, some people may notice changes in how they feel and function.

Possible signs associated with low iron levels may include:

• Fatigue or low energy • Difficulty concentrating • Pale skin • Shortness of breath • Hair thinning or increased hair fall

Women may be at a higher risk of iron deficiency due to factors such as menstrual blood loss, pregnancy, or increased nutritional needs.

Eating iron-rich foods such as spinach, lentils, beans, lean meats and nuts can help support healthy iron levels as part of a balanced diet.

If symptoms are persistent or affecting your daily life, consider discussing them with a healthcare professional.

5 Blood Tests Worth Discussing With Your Healthcare Provider

Regular health check-ups can provide valuable insights into your overall well-being. While the right tests vary from person to person, some commonly recommended blood tests may help monitor important aspects of health.

🩸 CBC (Complete Blood Count) Provides information about red blood cells, white blood cells and platelets.

🩸 Blood Sugar Helps assess how your body manages glucose levels.

🩸 Lipid Profile Measures cholesterol and triglyceride levels related to heart health.

🩸 TSH (Thyroid Stimulating Hormone) Supports evaluation of thyroid function.

🩸 Liver Function Test (LFT) Provides information about markers associated with liver health.

Routine testing should always be discussed in the context of your age, medical history, symptoms and healthcare provider's recommendations.

Staying informed about your health is an important step toward long-term well-being.

Could low Vitamin D be affecting your daily well-being?

Vitamin D plays an important role in supporting bone health, muscle function, and overall wellness. However, many people spend most of their time indoors and may not get enough sunlight exposure.

Some signs that may be associated with low Vitamin D levels include:

• Fatigue or low energy
• Muscle weakness
• Bone discomfort
• Low mood
• Frequent illnesses

These symptoms can have many possible causes, so it's important to discuss ongoing concerns with a healthcare professional.

High cholesterol is a common health concern, but many people don't realize they have it because it often develops without noticeable symptoms.

Several factors can contribute to high cholesterol levels, including:

• Diets high in saturated and trans fats
• Limited physical activity
• Smoking
• Family history and genetics

Over time, elevated cholesterol levels can contribute to the buildup of fatty deposits inside blood vessels, which may affect heart and circulatory health.

The good news is that healthy lifestyle choices can play an important role in managing cholesterol levels:

✔ Choose a balanced diet
✔ Stay physically active
✔ Avoid smoking
✔ Maintain a healthy weight
✔ Follow your healthcare provider's advice

Understanding the risk factors is an important step toward supporting long-term heart health.

Have you been feeling unusually tired, noticing hair loss, unexplained weight changes, or mood fluctuations?

Your thyroid gland plays an important role in regulating metabolism, energy levels, and overall well-being. When thyroid hormone levels become imbalanced, these changes may affect how you feel day to day.

A TSH (Thyroid Stimulating Hormone) test is commonly used to assess thyroid function and can help healthcare providers evaluate whether further testing is needed.

Common signs associated with thyroid imbalance may include:

• Fatigue or low energy
• Weight gain or difficulty losing weight
• Hair thinning or hair loss
• Mood changes
• Sensitivity to cold

If you are experiencing persistent symptoms, discuss them with your healthcare provider. Early evaluation can help identify potential thyroid-related concerns and guide appropriate care.

Humans possess two kidneys, which purify roughly 200 litres of blood daily. Do yours work properly? Most of us neglect our kidneys until they cause us pain; however, the ability to damage kidneys is silent and builds up over months to years before producing symptoms (you may already be unaware of a significant loss of kidney function). A Kidney Function Test (KFT) checks your kidneys for damage by measuring the following three substances:

- Creatinine: A byproduct of muscle metabolism. Units of creatinine indicate how hard your kidneys are working to remove it from your blood circulation and/or may indicate other illnesses.
- Urea: Another waste product as the breakdown of protein is converted to energy. If urea is elevated in blood circulation, the body is not filtering.
- eGFR: Your actual filtering capabilities of your kidneys. eGFR less than indicates that you have lost filtering capacity for your kidneys.

🚨 At Risk of having CKD if you fit into any of these criteria:
— Diabetic / Hypertensive
— Ingest More than XX grams of protein per day
— Drink less than 2 litres of water per day
— Family History of Kidney Disease
Good news about CKD — if detected early enough, will generally not require major treatment; if detected late, often requires aggressive treatment.
