Unitest Marine Simulators
maritime training software and engine room simulators Currently UNITEST CBT package includes 33 independent programs and the new modules are being developed.
Unitest was founded in 1990 as a private-owned enterprise and 26 years later the company converted to Unitest Marine Simulators Ltd. The company staff includes many experts from Gdynia Maritime University (Poland), young dynamic programmers and the computer graphic designers. Dr Leonard Tomczak who is the President of Board was also the founder and managing director of the original UNITEST enterprise. In the beginning the company’s activities were concentrated on the design and production of diagnostic and measurements instruments for the ship engine rooms. Gradually, the scope of company activities was broadened and in 1994, UNITEST has started to develop the Computer Based Training (CBT) interactive programs for marine engineering students and maritime engineers. Since 1995, UNITEST has begun to produce the engine room simulators and the first low speed diesel engine room simulator was produced two years later, followed by medium speed diesel and steam turbine engine room simulators. UNITEST has become a supplier of the customized dual-fuel engine simulators for BC Ferries ships built in Remontowa Shipyard, Gdansk (Poland). UNITEST is world leader in creation of maritime training software and the fully interactive engine room simulators with the realistic 3D visualization of the machinery space. Additionally, UNITEST simulators use state of the art proprietary integrated checklists and the fully automated assessment of the trainee competencies. UNITEST also creates interactive programs adapted to the needs of different marine equipment manufacturers. These programs, by using 3D technology, usually extend the operator’s manuals and allow the better understanding of the equipment construction and functioning. UNITEST constantly cooperates with ALFA LAVAL (Sweden), Kistler (Switzerland) and another maritime manufacturers. Recently, UNITEST has become the exclusive supplier of the customized simulators for all new electronically controlled low speed diesel engines produced by Winterthur Gas and Diesel (Switzerland) – formerly the part of the Wärtsilä corporation. In order to expand the offer, UNITEST has started to develop the 3D mobile applications which have to support the engine room maintenance works.

CBT 13 – Marine Training Software CBT Part 13 is now available for sale.
CBT 13 includes the following modules:
1. Ammonia as a fuel for marine 2-stroke DF engines - Introduction
2. Methanol as a fuel for marine 2-stroke DF engines - Introduction course
3. Electronically controlled low speed diesel engines
The first module – 'Ammonia as a fuel for marine 2-stroke DF engines' - discusses the transition of the maritime industry toward ammonia as a viable, carbon-free fuel for marine two-stroke dual-fuel engines to meet international decarbonization goals. It outlines the technical characteristics, production pathways, fuel system components, and operational modes of these engines, while addressing critical safety, leakage detection, and maintenance protocols necessitated by ammonia's toxicity.
The 'Methanol as a fuel for marine 2-stroke DF engines' module examines the integration of methanol as a low-carbon marine fuel for two-stroke dual-fuel engines to support global shipping decarbonization efforts. It outlines the technical specifications, fuel system components, and operating modes of WinGD X-DF-M engines, while highlighting the essential safety frameworks, ventilation requirements, and operating protocols designed to manage methanol's low flashpoint and toxicity.
Finally, the 'Electronically Controlled Low Speed Diesel Engines' module introduces the fundamental concepts, control systems, and key components of electronically controlled, low-speed, two-stroke marine diesel engines developed by Winterthur Gas & Diesel (WinGD). It also provides an introduction to the X-92B Marine Engine Room Simulator developed by Unitest.

Iceland 2026
Unitest has successfully completed the installation and training at Fjölbrautaskóli Norðurlands Vestra in Iceland.
This project is a continuation of the long-term cooperation between Unitest and Fjölbrautaskóli Norðurlands Vestra, confirming our ongoing partnership in supporting maritime education and professional seafarer training.
The installation included an update of the Unitest Marine Training Software, as well as the deployment of the well-established X92 container vessel engine room simulator and a new tugboat engine room model. These solutions further enhance the school’s training capabilities and support realistic, practice-oriented education for future marine engineers and officers.
Through projects like this, Unitest continues to actively support modern maritime training processes, contributing to the development of competent and well-prepared seafarers.
