Last Friday marked the official inauguration of ASTROCENT, a new international institute within the Polska Akademia Nauk.

Congratulations to Prof. Leszek Roszkowski, Director of ASTROCENT, and the entire team on this important milestone. We wish you every success in your research and in building a strong international scientific community around ASTROCENT.

A great beginning to an exciting new chapter in Polish science!

The Warsaw Science Festival is not only an opportunity to meet and listen to inspiring researchers from IMol - it is also a chance to open our laboratory doors to the next generation of young scientists!

We had the great pleasure of welcoming pupils from primary school to IMol for a series of interactive workshops. Through hands-on activities, experiments, and conversations with our researchers, the pupils had the opportunity to discover that science is not only fascinating, but also something they can actively explore themselves.

A huge thank you to all our IMol researchers who helped make these workshops possible, and particularly to Karolina Szczepanowska, Anna Marusiak, Klaudia Wojtal, Konrad Kowalski, Michal Wasilewski, Agnieszka Wardak, Tomasz Dulski, Sanata Tolak, Kamila Karpińska, and Deepti Mudartha for their enthusiasm, time, and dedication in sharing their passion for science with the younger generation.

During the Science Festival at our Institute, we welcomed the public to explore the fascinating world of science through engaging open lectures and interactive workshops.

A huge thank you to IMol Group Leaders: Justyna Zmorzyńska, Karolina Szczepanowska, Eugene Baulin, Piotr Gerlach, and Anna Marusiak - for their incredible dedication and passion to spread the knowledge to the wider community.

“Scientific talent needs the right conditions to flourish.”

In a new interview with Gazeta Wyborcza, Nobel Prize Laureate Prof. Victor Ambros reflects on Polish science, his roots and what it takes to develop outstanding researchers.

For Ambros, the key is not only talent itself, but creating an environment where scientists can take risks, pursue ambitious ideas, build strong teams and develop their work over the long term.
Poland has the talent. The opportunity is to create the conditions that allow it to reach its full potential - and to attract outstanding researchers from around the world.

Prof. Agnieszka Chacińska has been appointed a Founding Member of the newly established FEBS Research Academy.

This is a prestigious distinction recognising scientists who have made outstanding contributions to the life sciences and who play a leading role in shaping the future of European biochemistry and molecular biology.

The newly established FEBS Research Academy brings together an exceptional community of scientists, including numerous Nobel Prize laureates, making membership a remarkable recognition of scientific excellence and leadership.

🇵🇱 We are especially proud that Prof. Agnieszka Chacińska, IMol and Prof. Andrzej Dziembowski, International Institute of Molecular and Cell Biology in Warsaw are the two Polish scientists among the Founding Members of the Academy.

FEBS Announces the Founding of the FEBS Research Academy - FEBS FEBS announces the founding of the FEBS Research Academy, bringing together leading scientists from 24 countries to advance scientific excellence, collaboration and innovation in the molecular life sciences and beyond.

Join us for a lecture titled "Flu - structure and functioning of the virus, vaccines, and drugs," taking place as part of the 30th Festival of Science in Warsaw.

The session will be led by Prof. Piotr Gerlach, who will introduce the molecular mechanisms of influenza viruses, as well as current vaccines and medical treatments. His research is funded by FNP.

Please note that the lecture will be conducted in Polish and is open to everyone.

Today, Professor Victor Ambros, 2024 Nobel Prize laureate in Physiology or Medicine and Chair of the IMol Scientific Board, received the decision on the restoration of Polish citizenship personally from the Prime Minister of the Republic of Poland during a video call.

Professor Ambros’s Polish roots come from his father, who was Polish. The decision was therefore issued under the legal procedure for the restoration of Polish citizenship.

Prof. Ambros’s connection with IMol PAN began with an invitation from Prof. Agnieszka Chacińska, Director of IMol PAN, and Prof. Magda Konarska, who invited him to join Institute’s Scientific Board. Their initiative marked the beginning of a strong relationship between Professor Ambros and IMol PAN, connecting a Nobel laureate of Polish heritage with the Polish scientific community.

We are very pleased to see this important personal connection to Poland formally recognised, and proud to have Prof. Victor Ambros as Chair of the IMol PAN Scientific Board. 🇵🇱

🧠 How does a neurodivergent brain experience the world?

As part of the 30th Warsaw Science Festival, IMol invites you on 21 September to a lecture and discussion exploring the neurobiological foundations of autism and sensory differences.

Prof. Justyna Zmorzyńska will discuss how the brain processes sensory information, how genetics and early environment interact in shaping development, and what animal models can teach us about neuronal communication.

Importantly, the discussion will look at neurodiversity not as something to be “fixed”, but as a natural part of human diversity — and at how science can help us better understand and support different needs.
After the lecture, there will be an open discussion for people on the autism spectrum, their families, researchers, practitioners and everyone interested in the topic.
