The large Feed-In Line Box (FIIB) has been successfully produced and tested. The FIIB is part of the SIS100 project, which is currently under construction at the FAIR/GSI 'Universe in the Lab' facility. The vacuum vessel has a diameter of 2 meters and comprises valves, instrumentation, process piping, thermal shields, and superconducting busbars. This was a challenging and advanced engineering project – looking forward to final tests under liquid Helium conditions at GSI.

It’s chilly at the IT String ❄️
The test stand for the , the Inner–Triplet (IT) String, where many novel components are being tested collectively, just hit its operating temperature: 1.9 Kelvin – only two degrees above the absolute zero, the coldest temperature possible.
Now, scientists are gearing up to run all tests before powering it up.
