International Self Care Day – is just one day?!? By APYArte
Ayurveda, an ancestral health care system, is about simple steps every day of your life for continual self care. One day is not enough for me- is it for you? Let me share with you my daily routine known as Dinacharya. Every day I wake up implementing simple steps that help prepare me mentally for the day ahead and wake up my physical body in tune with nature’s seasons and time of day.
First, I do some Asanas in bed as I wake by stretching, moving my fingers, hands and feet and twisting from side to side. This doesn’t take more than a minute to wake up my senses but I can do it for longer when I need that extra oomph for the day. Then I head out to the bathroom – mother nature calls like clockwork for #’s 1 & 2 (are you that regular?), rinse my face, neck and ears, scrape my tongue, squeeze half a lemon into my room temperature 4 oz water drink. Then I’ll practice Gandusha, the ancient routine of swirling sesame seed oil in my mouth for about 10 minutes. (At times I may do a neti pot but as I live on a humid tropical island the interior of my nose is hardly ever dry, but try a neti pot to lubricate your nose and for other health ailments.) I’ll multitask anddo Abhyanga (self oil body massage) either before or after my 3 – 5 minute shower. (Yes, I believe in saving water as we have droughts all the time – now if I’m washing my hair all bets are off for how much time I’ll take between the head, ear, eye massage, the shampoo and the rinse. Now that’s for another future article so stay tuned!) After the shower I’ll spit out the sesame seed oil into a trash bin and rinse my mouth with warm water then I’ll brush my teeth with an Ayurvedic based toothpaste. (Brushing our teeth is a relatively modern practice, otherwise I’d be using Neem twigs as dental floss and chewing on them for the antibacterial effect they have on gums and teeth.) Although not an ancient Ayurvedic practice it has been done for millennia is the use of rock salt as an antiperspirant. No chemicals!
If time permits, then I do an hour of Yoga, (feel free to do Tai-Chi, swimming, etc) then 15-30 minutes of meditation that can be accompanied by sound healing such as theta waves for their calming and focusing effect. I’ll follow Ayurvedic color therapy by combining my clothes and accessories to follow Jyotish – Vedic Astrology to remind me of the beautiful gems found in mother earth and their corresponding planet to humble me into remembering its a big universe out there and we are one tiny planet in so many billion others. I’ll usually eat in tandem with the Ayurvedic clock and seasons for local nutrients. Breakfast and dinner is Kapha time, lunch is Pitta time and time for me, myself and I is Vata where my creative active being takes over. Sleeping is the final but one of the most important routine activities we must also conduct in our lives. An average of six hours should suffice but never less on a regular basis.
Are these things you can incorporate into your life? I made it a point to start off with one of these activities that I hadn’t already been doing. Make a promise to yourself for your long term self health care and start doing one thing then continue with the next. For a more personalized daily routine contact your local ancestral, cultural, native indigenous healer. You’ll be glad you did. Bad Bunny & Residente: Healing Brain Waves and Traditional Cultural Chanting BY APYArte
What’s the connection? Well, electrical brain oscillations occur when listening to sounds. These sounds are produced at different hz frequencies. Reggaeton musical song Bellacoso by Bad Bunny and Residente studied by professors in the field of neuroscience at Yale and New York University show the songs effect on brain waves to states of consciousness and cognitive activity. These brain waves occur at different frequencies known as Theta, Delta, Alpha, Beta and Gamma waves. They create different brain states ranging from anxiety, activeness, relaxation, passivity and sleep to mention a few. The College of Chemists of Puerto Rico have indicated that certain auditory stimulation can cause a surge in dopamine, serotonin and oxytocin which triggers happiness, motivation, peace, trust…
This is not new. Traditional cultural healing sciences have worked with sounds to promote neurological and physical healing for millennia. It's Ancestral Intelligence Information: AIi.
For example, the Sangomas from Southern Africa, Indigenous North American Natives and Tohunga use chanting to help them diagnose physical and emotional ailments. Tibetan Monks and Ayurvedic practitioners use vibrational mantras and prolonged intonations to reduce stress and promote mental clarity. Those cultural rhythms and beats such as dembow trigger a surge of dopamine release creating pleasurable sensations. So when you are feeling down listen to some dembow and think of your ancestors bringing you health through rhythms and sounds. What brain waves do you think Bad Bunny activates in your body?

Are you on the Sea-food, eat it diet? So our response: NO MORE DIETS! By APYArte
According to AI there are over 100 types of diets in the world. However, Ancestral Intelligence Info (AIi) what we consider diets are simply considered a style of eating appropriate to the culture and/or country where a variety of natural, organic food products have always existed. There was no need for diabetes, cancer, cholesterol… diet. People had a wholesome life and that lifestyle assured good health, chemical independence from costly medications and longevity. Check out the blue zones in the world and you’ll see what I’m referring to.
Food has played an important aspect in preventing illnesses by maintaining a strong and health immune system. When we don’t care for ourselves, including lack of physical and positive activities in our lives, we find ourselves ill.
Chinese Medicinal Food Therapy, one of the oldest “diet” systems in the world approaches health by understanding the energy behind food. What’s that? For example if you eat the Carolina Reaper, the most accessible spiciest pepper in the world you will probably immediately break out in a sweat, might have a severe stomach ache and even vomit. That little pepper has some fierce energy in it! So we have food energy that causes a reaction in our physical and mental bodies from being hot, to warm, neutral, cool and cold. We also have certain tastes such as sour, bitter, sweet, pungent and salty that also causes a reaction in our body. These, inter alia, are used by traditional ancestral health practitioners to offer an individualized nutritional system also incorporating your geography, the season, your lifestyle, your physical and mental characteristics to balance your internal systems, assist digestion and calm the mind for better healing. Remember the saying: “Food is our Medicine and Lifestyle is our Therapy.”
So next time you are contemplating a fad diet – don’t. (Which by the way you can try to figure out a bunch of these diets by downloading FREE Alternative Health X Word Puzzle on our - APYArte’s website.) Talk to your local ancestral health practitioner and ask them to help you develop a lifestyle plan that will help you now and always.

TCM true to its cultural heritage, uses boiled green tea (cooled to room temperature) to wash hands as it will kill bacteria on the skin. Rubbing the area between the thumb and 2nd finger (acupressure) improves circulation and skin defense against pathogens.Hakiima’s (Traditional Medicine Practitioners from Ethiopia, used coffee grounds as an abrasive scrub to remove dirt and neutralize odors.Shamans used smudging, where you pass your hands through burning herbs to cleanse and remove negative energies.

Martial Arts an Ancestral Healing System?
YES!!! Martial Arts is an ancestral healing system. According to some scholars, Kung Fu was originally developed as a healing practice more specifically self-help methods developed by Shaolin Monks practicing Shaolin Kung Fu. In fact some practitioners believe that Shaolin Kung Fu is the same as Classical Chinese Medicine (CCM) and its primary use is for health and self development with fighting skills as a secondary result of practicing Kung Fu.
Shaolin TCM (Traditional Chinese Medicine) is divided into internal and external types. Internal medicine focuses on strengthening muscles and bones. External medicine focuses on relaxing muscles, reducing pain and diminishing the aging process. Shaolin Qigong, usually practiced in conjunction with Shaolin Kung Fu, focuses on defeating illnesses, promotes health by strengthening the body, engaging mental focus while promoting vitality and longevity.
Shaolin Kung Fu practiced with Shaolin Qigong promotes balances yin and yang, promotes a balanced meridian flow, regulates energy and blood which ultimately reduces blood pressure, reduces diabetes, assists with improving vision, smoothing the nervous system and assists with brain challenges including memory.

Traditional Healing Practices for Love
The most widely recognized Ancient and Traditional healing practice is known as Ta**ra more specifically Ta***ic s*x based on Ta***ic breathing/touch practices. You also may have heard or read the famous book the K**a Sutra which touches upon Ta**ra. Modern Ta**ra and especially in the “West” focuses upon s*x. The reality is that Ta**ra is based on Hatha Yoga a psycho-physical body focused Yoga practice. Ta**ra is about loving oneself and others. It’s about reaching that physical care of one’s body that helps balance the internal energies – Kundalini - giving strength for unity with one’s mental and intellectual well being. The ultimate in union of one’s own body, mind and intellect. That is true love that leads one to the ability to love others just as deeply and intensely.
While Ta***ic practice is the most well known it is not alone. Reiki, Lama Fera Healing a Tibetan Buddhist method, Chakra Balancing, and Aura Clearing are energetic traditional healing practices for Love. Ancient healing practices for intimate connections still used today are Ho’oponopono – a Hawaiian practice meant to foster deep connection, moon circles and meditation are also used to assist one with making those so desired love connections.
There are many other Cultural and Indigenous practices carried on worldwide. Many of the Native American tribes have ‘love medicine’ a combination of herbs, chants, songs and other rituals used to create, promote, attract, mend and heal individuals and communities. The Rongoa Maori from New Zealand use a combination of plants and massages to align the body and mind to be open to love. Healing circles popular in aboriginal and indigenous communities use safe spaces for loving communication in a supportive collective environment.
So, if you are feeling you need to spice up your love life in however that may be important to you and your loved ones consider looking into ancient, cultural, indigenous and native healing practices to guide you. Consult with your local traditional and cultural healer for more advise.
