PACE, which stands for Partners for the Advancement of Collaborative Engineering Education, is a global joint between companies such as General Motors (GM), Autodesk, Hewlett-Packard (HP), Oracle and Siemens in order to support academic institutions worldwide to develop the automobile product lifecycle management (PLM) teams of the future. In order to implement such, a team of various academics institutions, each specialized in a certain area (industrial design, manufacturing, electronics, etc...) will collaborate one another in order to develop a feasible product to be manufactured in the next 5 years, taking into consideration global priorities and concerns regarding transportation. The total project has a timeline of 2 years, in which the 1st year is to develop a prototype taking into consideration possible markets and trends in transportation from the start of the project to 5 years. In the second year, a working model is created from the research of the 1st year and exhibited at a global forum. After that, a new cycle is repeated, considering new challenges and requirements. PACE, que se desglosa por sus siglas en inglés como Parterns for the Advancement of Collaborative Engineering Education, es una alianza mundial entre compañías como General Motors (GM), Autodesk, Hewlett-Packard (HP), Oracle and Siemens para adiestrar instituciones académicas globalmente con el fin de ir introduciendo a los participantes a un proyecto automotriz, los cuales se manejan por ciclos. Para lograr tal objetivo, un equipo consistente de varias organizaciones académicas, cada una especializada en un área en particular (diseño industrial, manufactura, electrónica) colaboraran entre sí para desarrollar un producto viable que se manufacturara en los próximos 5 años, tomando en consideración prioridades globales y preocupaciones con respecto a la transportación. El proyecto tiene una vida de 2 años, en el cual el primer año es para desarrollar un prototipo tomando en consideración posibles mercados y las tendencias en transportación desde el inicio del proyecto a 5 años. En el segundo año, se desarrollara un modelo funcional con la investigación realizada en el 1er año, el cual se presentara un foro global. Luego, un nuevo ciclo comenzara, considerando nuevos retos y requerimientos.

The PACE 2016 Global Forum “Global Mobility Challenges and Solutions” ended this past Thursday and Team 8 left an unforgettable mark in the PACE community. 5 Awards, over 8 PACE institutions wanting to join our team #2 for the PUMA project and 9 UPRM students that achieved the GO PLM certification. Our team was the only one to win awards in each of the primary categories (Design, Costumer Insight, Engineering & Manufacturing) and to win the Siemens Excellence in PLM Award for two years in a row. We thank our proud sponsors, General Motors, Elaphe Propulsion Technologies & most of all Alba Colon for the all support. Go Super 8!

Today we were at UPR-Ponce showing high school students what studying mechanical engineering at UPRM is all about. We had a wonderful time, and would like to thank all UPRM & UPRP faculty and Staff that made this activity possible.
