September is getting closer, and we are getting ready for another year of maths at math.more.

Our Saturday timetable for 2026–2027 is now available, and enrolment is open for students in Years 3–12.

This year we will be teaching:

Advanced School Mathematics — for children who want to go beyond the standard school curriculum and understand mathematics more deeply.

Olympiad Mathematics — for students who enjoy challenging problems and would like to participate in competitions such as AMC 8, AMC 10/12, Portuguese Mathematical Olympiads (OPM), Kangaroo, UK Maths Challenge, International Maths Challenge and SASMO.

Exam Preparation — IGCSE Mathematics, A Level Mathematics, IB Diploma Mathematics and Portuguese National Mathematics Exams.

In-person classes take place on Saturdays at NOVA University Lisbon, near Gulbenkian and El Corte Inglés.

Online classes are available Monday–Saturday for students outside Lisbon or those who prefer to study online.

Students can join School Mathematics, Olympiad Mathematics, or combine both.

The first trial lesson is free.

To book a trial lesson, simply fill in the enrolment form on our website. We’ll look at your child’s age and programme preferences and send you an invitation with the most suitable available group.

Solving something difficult is deeply satisfying.

You struggle with a problem. You try one approach. It doesn’t work. You try another.

And then, finally, you see it.

That moment when a difficult problem suddenly makes sense is one of the great pleasures of mathematics.

But struggle only helps when success feels possible.

In education, this is often called productive struggle: working on something that is genuinely difficult, but still within reach.

If difficult problems repeatedly end in failure, children learn to avoid difficulty. But when struggle eventually leads to success, they begin to discover:

“I don’t know how to solve it yet — but I might figure it out.”

So how do we help without solving the problem for them?

One approach is called scaffolding: giving just enough support to help a child take the next step, while leaving the thinking to them.

Not:
“Here’s what you need to do.”

But:
“What do you already know?”
“What have you tried?”
“Could you draw it?”
“Could you try a simpler case?”

The help gets them moving.
The discovery remains theirs.

The goal is not to make mathematics easy.
It is to teach children what to do when it isn’t.

Many parents don’t realise just how many maths competitions are available to children in Portugal — for different ages and with very different levels of difficulty.

Some can be taken at your child’s own school, some at math.more, and some online.

Save our guide to maths competitions for 2026–2027. We’ll keep adding to the list throughout the year, so follow us not to miss new competitions, dates and registration details.

And if your child is interested in preparing for maths competitions, we offer both offline classes in central Lisbon on Saturdays and online classes.

Registration for 2026–2027 is open. Free trial lesson available.

✨The best olympiad preparation comes from consistent problem solving.

This summer we are opening small online groups for students preparing for:AMC 8 • AMC 10 • Portuguese Math Olympiads.

The format is designed to help students maintain rhythm, discipline and independent mathematical thinking throughout the summer.
