There's a rule now that says your chatbot has to admit it's a chatbot.
Since 2 August 2026, Article 50 of the EU AI Act requires that any AI system talking directly to people discloses that fact, clearly, from the first interaction. Not buried in a privacy policy. Not implied. Stated.
Most SME chatbots were built to sound as human as possible. That was the whole point. Now the same design choice that made the bot feel helpful is the thing that puts a business on the wrong side of a rule that's already in force, not coming later this year.
The fix itself is small. Finding out you need it usually isn't.
If your chatbot doesn't say it's AI in its first message, that's not a future problem. It's a today problem.
Twenty specific tasks you can automate today, across finance, sales, support, and operations. Free download, one page, no guesswork.

One of our clients used to manually re-enter the same customer details into three different systems.
Once when the enquiry came in. Again when the deal closed and needed a CRM record. A third time when the invoice went out. Every retype was a chance for a typo, a dropped field, a customer's name spelled wrong on their own invoice.
Manual data entry carries a documented error rate of one to four errors per hundred fields entered. Across three systems and dozens of clients a month, that adds up to a steady trickle of small, avoidable mistakes.
When we connected her three systems so the data flowed automatically, the time saving was real, a few hours a week. But the bigger change was quieter: the small errors that used to show up in invoices and follow-up emails simply stopped happening.
Sometimes the best automation is the one that stops the mistakes nobody was tracking.
The hours are the obvious win.
The errors that quietly stop are the one nobody budgets for.

Before you automate anything, spend one week just watching where your time actually goes.
Not guessing. Watching. Keep a simple tally across four categories: Finance, Sales & Leads, Customer Support, and Operations. Every time you do something manual in one of those categories, jot it down.
By Friday, you'll have a clear picture. Most owners are surprised by which category wins. It's rarely the one they assumed.
The category eating the most hours is your answer. That's where automation pays back fastest, because you're not guessing at a problem, you're automating one you've already measured.
This costs nothing and takes five minutes a day. It's the highest-value five minutes most business owners never spend.
Measure before you automate.
The category with the most hours logged is where to start.
21 times more likely to qualify a lead, just by responding in 5 minutes instead of 30. Here's why almost nobody actually does it.

Business owners get back a median of five hours a week once they automate the right things.
That's not our number. It's from Zapier's 2024 State of Business Automation research, based on business owners who actually did it.
Five hours a week doesn't sound dramatic until you multiply it. That's roughly a full working day, every single week, that was previously going to invoicing, chasing leads, answering the same customer question for the fifth time.
None of those tasks are hard. They're just numerous, and numerous is exactly the kind of problem automation is built to solve.
The tasks worth automating first are the ones that show up in your week most often.
A full working day back, every week.
That's the actual number, not a sales pitch.
No form. No fifteen-minute call just to hear a number.

One of our clients once spent an entire Tuesday evening filling out five "request a quote" forms.
Five different automation agencies. Five near-identical forms asking for her name, company size, and phone number. Five replies, all asking to book a fifteen-minute call before anyone would tell her a price.
By the time she found us, she wasn't looking for the cheapest option anymore.
She just wanted a straight answer.
We gave her one in about ninety seconds: setup fee, monthly cost, what's included, what happens in week one. No form, no call required to get there.
She still booked a call afterwards, because she had real questions about her specific setup. But by then she already knew what she was walking into, and so did we. That's the difference published pricing makes. It doesn't remove the conversation. It removes the guessing that used to happen before it.
The best sales conversations start after both sides already know the number, not before.

Before your next call with an automation provider, run this 30-second check first.
Open their website. Go to the pricing or products page. Time yourself.
Can you find a specific number in under 30 seconds, a setup fee, a monthly cost, anything concrete? Or does every path lead to a form asking for your name, email, and phone number before you learn anything?
If it's the second one, you're not looking at a pricing page. You're looking at a lead capture form wearing a pricing page's clothes.
This isn't about catching anyone out. It's a genuinely useful filter. A provider confident in their pricing structure will show it to you before you've given them a single detail about your business. A provider who needs your contact information first, before a single figure, is usually building toward a conversation, not answering a question.
Try it on the next three providers you're comparing.
You'll have your shortlist narrowed before lunch.
Thirty seconds tells you more about how a provider operates than most discovery calls do.
The real reason agencies won't tell you the price.
Spoiler: it protects their negotiating position, not yours.
