Ordem 15 - Lousada

(pt) A Quinta das Águas está entre os vencedores dos International Architecture Awards 2026, e ver este projeto reconhecido lá fora deixa-nos particularmente felizes.

Uma propriedade oitocentista em Vila Nova de Famalicão, onde a Casa Torre, a antiga garagem e um novo Pavilhão de Verão passam a viver como uma só casa expandida.

Obrigado ao júri dos International Architecture Awards, aos clientes que abraçaram o processo e a toda a equipa que fez a Quinta das Águas acontecer.

(en) Quinta das Águas is among the winners of the International Architecture Awards 2026, and seeing this project recognised abroad makes us particularly happy.

A nineteenth-century estate in Vila Nova de Famalicão, where the Tower House, the old garage, and a new Summer Pavilion come to live as a single, expanded house.

Thank you to the jury of the International Architecture Awards, to the clients who embraced the process, and to the whole team who made Quinta das Águas happen.

(pt) A organização interior obedece à mesma lógica que define a volumetria e os alçados. A norte concentram-se os acessos comuns, as circulações verticais e as áreas de apoio, libertando as orientações mais favoráveis para os espaços de permanência. Os espaços habitáveis orientam-se para sul e poente, voltando-se para as varandas, para as áreas ajardinadas e para o vale.

A relação entre o interior e o exterior não resulta de uma abertura indiscriminada do edifício, mas da posição precisa de cada vão. A entrada de luz, o enquadramento da paisagem e a preservação da privacidade são considerados em conjunto. A luz natural entra de forma controlada e acompanha os espaços ao longo do dia.

Nas varandas, esta relação ganha profundidade. Em vez de se projetarem para além do volume, recuam para o seu interior, e a profundidade destes vazios modera a incidência solar, protege os interiores e resguarda as habitações dos olhares exteriores. Cada fração conquista, deste modo, um espaço exterior próprio que prolonga o interior sem comprometer a unidade do edifício.

(en) The interior follows the same logic that shapes the volume and the elevations. To the north sit the common entrances, the vertical circulations and the service areas, freeing the best orientations for the living spaces. The living spaces face south and west, turning towards the balconies, the gardens and the valley.

The relationship between inside and outside does not come from opening the building at will, but from the precise position of each opening. Light, the framing of the landscape and the sense of privacy are considered together. Daylight enters in a controlled way and follows the rooms through the day.

On the balconies, this relationship gains depth. Rather than reaching beyond the volume, they draw back into it, and the depth of these voids moderates the sun, protects the interiors and shelters the homes from outside eyes. Each unit gains, in this way, an outdoor space of its own that extends the interior without breaking the unity of the building.

(pt) Uma peça monolítica cuja unidade não depende de tratar todas as fachadas por igual. Cada frente responde de forma distinta à exposição solar, à proximidade da envolvente e à relação com a paisagem. Ainda assim, esta variação não fragmenta a leitura do conjunto.

A materialidade torna visível a relação entre o corpo construído e os espaços nele escavados. Um tom de bege claro unifica o volume e aproxima-o do lugar. No interior das varandas, a madeira marca a passagem da superfície exterior para a profundidade dos vazios. O contraste entre os materiais revela o gesto de subtração que dá forma ao edifício, enquanto os tons quentes suavizam a sua presença na envolvente.

(en) A monolithic piece whose unity does not depend on treating every façade alike. Each front responds differently to the sun, to the nearness of its surroundings and to the landscape. Even so, this variation never breaks the reading of the whole.

Materiality makes that relationship visible, between the built body and the spaces carved into it. A light beige tone unifies the volume and brings it closer to the place. Inside the balconies, timber marks the passage from the outer surface to the depth of the voids. The contrast between the materials reveals the gesture of subtraction that shapes the building, while the warm tones soften its presence in the surroundings.

(pt) Uma forma que nasce da sua subtração.

O projeto parte da geometria e dos limites do terreno. Da área possível nasce um corpo único e compacto, que depois se trabalha por subtração. Escava-se para fazer entrar a luz, enquadrar a paisagem e criar os espaços.

O resultado é uma peça monolítica e discreta. A sul e a poente, abre-se à luz e às vistas sobre o vale. A norte, mais próxima da envolvente, recolhe-se.

Na aparente solidez do volume, são os vazios que revelam a forma de o habitar.

(en) A form born from its own subtraction.

The project begins with the geometry and the limits of the site. From the available area comes a single, compact body, then shaped by subtraction. It is carved to let the light in, to frame the landscape and to make its spaces.

The result is a monolithic, discreet piece. To the south and west it opens to the light and to the views over the valley. To the north, closer to its surroundings, it draws back.

In the apparent solidity of the volume, it is the voids that reveal how it is lived.
