It came to life in a period when post-, anti-, retro-, neo-, hyper-, super-, sub- had become more important than the notions themselves, which they would normally redirect, bring back into discussion, deconstruct- as an attachment to modernism, vanguard, real etc. With us, META steps into the foreground of independence and identity, which it had not had as a prefix, thus losing its quality as an annex to something.
