Health tech will clearly have the upper hand at this week’s Tuesday . Two of the three solutions we’ll be discussing look at how technology could make health monitoring and intervention more accessible, more continuous and, potentially, much less dependent on the traditional clinic setting.
➡️ One team will present an at-home biomarker testing solution, using a small saliva sample to generate readings on a phone in a matter of minutes. The model combines low-cost hardware with recurring subscriptions and sensor refills, targeting first the people already actively tracking their health and performance.
➡️ Another is working at the intersection of synthetic biology and metabolic health, engineering gut bacteria with the goal of supporting natural GLP-1 signaling and better blood-sugar control for people with pre-diabetes. The commercial path is through licensing to pharmaceutical and nutrition partners, subject to further validation and clinical development.
And then, a very different kind of engineering problem:
➡️ An AI assistant for structural engineers, focused initially on reinforcement detailing for concrete buildings. The solution turns engineers’ instructions into 3D models, drawings and material lists, aiming to bring a process that is still often manual and 2D into a more automated, coordinated workflow.
Quite a distance to cover in one room. 🚀
If you’re interested in joining this adventure on either side of the pitch deck, as a founder or as an investor, you’ll find the application forms on our website. Applications are open on a rolling basis. Just fill in the info and our team will take it from there.

An interesting edition for funding news, with new capital going into companies at very different stages. We also spotted more capital becoming accessible to Romanian founders and a busy autumn calendar taking shape.
➡️ Veridion has raised a $20 million Series A to accelerate international expansion and further develop its AI-powered business intelligence platform. The Romanian-founded company provides real-time business data that helps companies identify, understand and monitor businesses and supply chains at scale. Its data covers around 640 million businesses worldwide, and the new round brings its total funding to $27.5 million. Veridion also plans to grow its Romanian team by 50%, global scaling with continued investment in the team at home.
We received the news with particular joy: TechAngels members have been close to the Veridion team as early supporters and investors since 2019. Seeing that early journey turn into global scale makes this round particularly special for our community.
➡️ Brewtifi Tech the Romanian app connecting specialty coffee lovers with cafés, events and communities, has raised a new round from angel investors from the TechAngels and Food Angels HUB networks, reaching a €1.6 million post-money valuation less than a year after launch. The capital will support product and business development, community growth and its plans to expand across the European specialty coffee ecosystem.
➡️ boxd, a Dutch startup with a Romanian co-founder, has raised a $2 million pre-seed round to build cloud infrastructure for developers and AI coding agents. Its persistent virtual machines allow multiple AI agents to build and test in parallel in isolated environments. The funding will support team expansion and Boxd’s own virtualization engine, another sign of investment moving deeper into the infrastructure behind increasingly autonomous AI systems.
👀 Keep an eye on...
➡️ Asternova Centru, a new €8+ million VC fund, will target pre-seed and seed tech startups from Central Romania, with tickets of €50,000–€350,000. TechAngels is a Community Partner for its launch.
➡️ The U.S.–Romania AI & Business Summit will bring representatives of six American investment funds to Timișoara, with opportunities for Romanian founders to pitch and meet investors directly.
➡️ Rubik Hub has opened applications for its new MVP accelerator, with participating startups potentially eligible for a €150,000 investment.
And a bit of news from our side, too.
➡️ We published the TechAngels H1 2026 results: our members made more than €1 million in direct investments during the first six months of the year, 18% more than in the same period of 2025. For H2, members indicated a potential €2.18 million available for new investments. The appetite is there, but turning that potential into actual investment will require truly convincing projects.

Some startup news is best read over coffee. This one definitely is. ☕️ , the app built around discovering specialty coffee, cafés, roasteries and coffee communities, has raised a new angel round and reached a €1.6 million post-money valuation, less than a year after launch.
The round was led by Ștefănescu, TechAngels VP, together with Radu Savopol, founder of 5 to go and Food Angels HUB, a combination that brings technology and F&B experience around the same table.
And there is already quite a bit brewing: 20,000+ users across Europe, 8,500 specialty cafés and more than 180 roasteries are part of the BREWTIFI ecosystem.
This kind of investment is, besides the capital, about bringing the right experience, networks and perspectives around a team as it moves into its next stage of growth. Congratulations to the BREWTIFI team and to the investors joining the journey.
Let s keep an eye on this one. Preferably over coffee. 🙃

H1 2026 results are in and angel investing remains selective, but active.
➡️ Our TechAngels members invested €1.09M directly in tech startups in H1 2026, up 18% vs. H1 2025. Looking ahead, members reported €2.18M in investment intentions for H2, showing that capital is available, but increasingly selective.
➡️A few signals from the first half of the year:
• 22% of members made at least one direct investment
• 14% invested in new startups
• 68.6% of the startups pitched to TechAngels included AI as a material part of their solution
➡️The overall picture shows that investors are still exploring new opportunities, while larger amounts of capital tend to follow companies that have already shown validation and traction. Read the full TechAngels H1 2026 overview ⬇️

🔊TechAngels joins Romanian Capital Circle: Asternova Centru VC Launch & EIT Urban Mobility Ecosystem Day as Community Partner!
➡️Public funding and private capital work best when they are not two separate roads. Across Europe, some of the stronger innovation ecosystems have built ways for public and European funding to bring in private investors and help companies move from early support to real scale. Romania is only beginning to build these bridges more systematically, which makes this conversation particularly timely.
➡️The event brings together more than 200 investors, founders, companies, public institutions and innovation organizations around exactly this transition: what comes after grants, how companies become investment-ready, and how private capital can support the next stage of growth.
➡️Our VP Cosmin Curticapean, CEO of Lendox, will join the panel “Scaling Innovation – From public funding to private investment”, bringing a perspective shaped by his experience as a founder, angel investor and VP of the TechAngels Board.
➡️We are glad to support a conversation that can help turn separate funding instruments into a more coherent path for startups to grow.
➡️The day also marks the launch of Asternova Centru, a new VC fund for companies in the Central Region, with more than €8 million available, and brings EIT Urban Mobility funding opportunities, programs and partnerships closer to the local ecosystem.
➡️For founders, there is an additional reason to be there: a dedicated Startup Expo and matchmaking area, created for early-stage companies to meet investors, companies and potential partners.

A few very different signals caught our attention in this issue from a startup preparing its first institutional round to biotech validation, investor access and one of the region’s important cybersecurity gatherings.
➡️ , a Romanian telemedicine startup focused on mental health, is looking to raise a €100,000–€200,000 pre-seed round to support expansion and promotion. Launched in April, the platform already has more than 500 registered patients, over 300 consultations and eight specialists, with a target of exceeding 2,000 users and reaching 20 specialists by year-end.
The platform brings psychiatry, psychology and psychotherapy into a dedicated telemedicine environment. An interesting product choice: the team tested AI in the MVP but removed it from the patient-facing product over concerns around sensitive clinical data and model training.
➡️ Cat Health Company reported two important milestones on the path from R&D to market: positive results from a multicentre European clinical study for its feline longevity treatment, PURR-001, and a licensing, manufacturing and distribution agreement with Vetro Solutions covering seven European markets. For an early-stage biotech company, this is the kind of progress that matters: scientific validation on one side and a route to commercialization on the other.
➡️ For Romanian tech startups looking for investor exposure, applications are open to join the Romanian delegation at Luxembourg Venture Days, on October 14–15. Selected founders can participate free of charge through RoTechMission, with access to the event, the European Angel Investment Summit and meetings with investors and members of the local ecosystem.
➡️ One for the industry calendar: 2026 is expected to bring more than 2,500 cybersecurity professionals to Bucharest, reinforcing its role as one of the region’s significant meeting points for the security community.
Different stages, different signals, but the same underlying search for what moves a startup closer to its next level of validation. Is it market access or capital?

Prima afacere a eșuat. A doua a devenit un succes | Bogdan Iordache, Underline Ventures 11/09/2026

Today’s is a bit about past and a lot about the future. Bogdan Iordache, one of the co-founders of , goes back to the early days of the local tech ecosystem, from a time when “startup” was hardly part of the business vocabulary and investment capital was scarce, to today’s much more mature and specialized market. The .ro team digs diligently through that past, bringing forward some very useful lessons.
➡️ One part of the conversation, about how the relationship between founders and investors has evolved, is particularly interesting and useful. (around 39:06)
Bogdan points to three factors that shape it: the amount of capital available, the level of risk investors are prepared to take, and the overall understanding of how startup investing works.
➡️ Back when TechAngels started in 2012, the market looked very different. Investment options were few, roles were much less defined, and an angel investor could potentially enter a company at almost any stage. Today, the ecosystem is much more specialized , by stage, geography, vertical and type of capital. An angel investor is one specific part of a founder’s much longer funding journey.
➡️ Perhaps the point in the conversation most likely to spark debate, and some emotion, is the one about what hasn’t changed: not every investment should happen. Before founders and investors discuss terms, there needs to be alignment around principles, expectations, risk and the kind of outcome each side is looking for. Sometimes the right decision is to work together. Sometimes it is to recognize that the match simply isn’t there.
➡️ The full interview is also a walk through more than two decades of Romanian tech, How to Web, TechAngels, TechHub, angel investing, VC and the lessons gathered along the way.

Definitely worth the time. Full interview ⬇️

And since this conversation is also very much about how the ecosystem evolved, you might want to follow our TechAngels – Little History booklet too. ⬇️

It is said that the Perseid meteor shower is a bit like Christmas for astronomers. Well, How to Web Conference is a bit like that for the startup community. It is one of those dates that tends to make it into the calendar every year almost automatically.
➡️ is once again a partner of this years edirion, taking place in Bucharest on October 6–8, and we are very happy to support an event that has become an important meeting point for the regional tech ecosystem.
➡️We think it is important because it puts a lot of useful conversations in the same place.
➡️This year, 60+ speakers will take the stage across several content tracks, from product, engineering and AI to growth, leadership, startups and investment. But, as always, quite a lot happens away from the stages too.
➡️Founders meet investors and investors discover teams they did not know before. People who have only exchanged LinkedIn messages finally sit down for coffee. Some conversations go nowhere but others start something. For an ecosystem, having places where these connections can happen repeatedly matters.
➡️That is also why TechAngels keeps coming back. Many of our members will be there again this year, listening, meeting founders, exchanging perspectives and, very likely, asking quite a few questions.
➡️So if you are joining How to Web this October, come and say hello. We are always ready to talk.
➡️One practical note: there are 9 days left in the Early Bird ticket period, so if How to Web is already on your autumn calendar, this might be a good moment to make it official. See you in October. 👋

are back and so are the very different problems founders are trying to solve. Our new TechAngels pitching session, takes us from business operations and medical imaging all the way to high-school mathematics.

➡️ One team is building AI for sales, customer support and employee relations, working across WhatsApp, voice and email. The model is outcome-based: automate the work, help people perform better, and get paid for successful results. The product is already being used inside other businesses operated by the founders.

➡️Second solution is tackling a very different kind of pressure: more medical images to analyze, with fewer radiologists available to see them. Its AI assists radiologists in interpreting medical imaging, with the aim of reducing diagnostic time and improving precision. The company works with private and public healthcare providers, mainly across CEE, and is now expanding into Western Europe.

➡️ The third team is looking at a problem many Romanian students and parents know well: learning mathematics by memorizing rather than understanding it. Its platform uses short animated lessons and exercises to explain the logic behind the maths, offering an alternative to expensive and geographically limited private tutoring. After six years of content development, the team has built 350+ lessons, attracted 1,000+ registered students and around 150 paying subscribers, so far with zero paid marketing.

Three good reminders that technology becomes interesting when the conversation moves from what can we build? to what problem are we actually solving, for whom, and does it work?

That is exactly why we missed our weekly PitchDays. Welcome back to the pitch room. 🚀

A quieter on our radar, but with two very different stories about what happens when demand starts moving faster, from a Romanian drone manufacturer preparing its next funding round to an AI startup with a Romanian co-founder reaching a reported $3.2 billion valuation.
➡️ Aero, the Cluj-based startup developing long-range drones for civil and defense applications, is negotiating its second funding round and aims to close it in September. Four investors are currently at the table, although the amount under discussion has not been disclosed. The company previously raised around €313,000 in 2025 through SeedBlink and an individual investor. The timing comes as demand is accelerating, particularly in defence.
BraveX has added a new European customer for defence-system calibration, expanded production capacity over the summer and is developing a drone-based interception concept for hostile drones approaching from the Black Sea. Its aircraft are dual-use, with civilian applications ranging from infrastructure monitoring and agriculture to border surveillance and early wildfire detection.
The scaling challenge is already quite tangible: potential customers have asked whether the company could deliver 50 drones within two months and, for now, the answer was no. BraveX wants to become a reference European manufacturer of fixed-wing civilian drones by 2030 and expects its team to reach 50 people next year.
➡️ , a San Francisco AI training-data startup, co-founded by a Romanian entrepreneur, has reportedly raised a new round at a $3.2 billion valuation, only five months after announcing a $30 million Series A at a $300 million valuation. If confirmed, that represents a more than tenfold increase in valuation in less than half a year.
AfterQuery works with professionals such as doctors and lawyers to train AI models and agents to perform specialized tasks by learning the patterns, decisions and reasoning used by experts. In April, the company said it had reached a $100 million annualized revenue run rate and was working with major AI labs and technology companies. According to Y Combinator, it has now become the fastest startup in the accelerator’s history to go from launch to unicorn status.
Two very different companies, but an interesting reminder of the fact that, after technology finds demand, the focus shifts from can you build it, to how fast can you scale it?
