Founded in 2016 by designer Andra Clitan, MA RA MI sets its inspiration in the fusion between Romanian traditional costumes with different cultures from around the world. Garments that have lived, and garments made to continue that life.

This collection comes from long-term research and from direct work with communities where making is still part of everyday life.

It brings together safeguarded heritage garments and pieces developed in close collaboration with artisans from Maramureș and Țara Oașului (N-W Romania), following the original construction, techniques, and ways in which these garments are made and worn.

The work in Țara Oașului was developed with the guidance of Mihaela Grigorean, whose research and deep connection to the region made it possible to access and understand this context through the people who live and work within it.

Some pieces remain as they are. Others are created from the beginning, through shared processes of making.
