STRATEC Biomedical Romania
Stratec Biomedical Romania is specialized in developing software, hardware and embedded solutions, testing and mechanical design.
"STRATEC" our engineering is often inside but seldom on the label
We develop and produce fully automated analyzer systems under the name of many of the leading global in vitro diagnostics companies as well as Hematology and Clinical Chemistry systems that we market under the Diatron brand. We also offer integrated software solutions for laboratories and sample preparation products to both clinical and research laboratories working with molecular diagnostics. The STRATEC name is often not in the limelight, however our products play a crucial role in blood banks, group practices, hospitals and laboratories worldwide. Our systems work around the clock and run more than five million tests every day. This enables us to help people and improve the quality of life for this and future generations. What you should know about us ...
• We develop and produce fully automated analyzer systems
• Our solutions are used worldwide
• We are a partner for market-leading companies such as Siemens, Abbott, Roche, etc
• Our annual turnover is currently around EUR 180 million
• We currently employ over 900 worldwide employees at nine locations on three continents

After 3 months of intensive work, our interns successfully finished the challenge we had for them. They brought together the hardware, firmware, and software, while also developing the control logic, precise movements, 3D simulation, and full voice control that support the robot’s operation.
Besides the amazing technical results, the project has been an incredible learning experience. The interns gained practical insights into robotics, complex problem-solving and testing, while also experiencing what it takes to turn an ambitious idea into a functioning solution: working as a team, learning from unexpected challenges, and continuously improving their approach.
We are proud of what they achieved and the progress they made throughout the project. Congratulations to the entire team!

Our summer interns have reached a milestone with their voice-controlled robotic arm. The focus is now on testing, testing and more testing!
The team is taking measurements, adjusting cable management, checking the robot’s movements, and looking for opportunities to gain even more precision and speed. In addition, an extra component is currently being desgined and implemented to automate the laboratory pipetting process even further.
We can now also reveal the interns’ impressive idea that we hinted at last time: what started as a debugging process turned into a live 3D simulation of the robot and its environment. It displays the robot’s movements, the status of the tubes and wells, and where aspiration and dispensing take place. Sensor information, such as detected foreign objects, can also be visualised. The project is almost complete, but there are still plenty of tests to run before the final rollout.

Our summer interns have made significant progress on their voice-controlled robotic arm for hands-free laboratory test preparation.
A major part of the software and firmware is now complete and ready for testing on the real hardware. So far, the interns have tested the firmware with individual components and verified the software using simulators.
The team has also developed the control logic and mathematics needed to translate visual information into precise robot movements. The 3D model is complete, the 3D printers have been put to use. The robot is currently being assembled and will soon be ready for testing. This will be an important step, as the team brings the different elements together and finally sees how the modules interact with one another from beginning to end.
Along the way, the interns also had an idea that genuinely impressed us. We cannot reveal too much just yet, but it adds another exciting dimension to the project.

Our summer interns have made an impressive start. They took on the challenge of building a fully voice-automated robotic arm for hands-free laboratory test preparation. In less than a month, the team has established a solid foundation, including the software architecture, core embedded control, software-firmware contracts, mechanical design, 3D-printed prototypes and initial hardware testing.
We are excited to see what further ideas they bring to the project and to follow their progress over the coming weeks.
Stay tuned for more! In the meantime, here is a look at the 3D-printed prototype.

Yesterday, we kicked off Build Your Robot 2026 together with our new interns.
From the first coffee to the office tour, they:
met their mentors and teammates
got hands-on with their first tasks
started shaping their mission plan for the next weeks
In the next weeks, they’ll train with their mentors, explore different areas of their work, and gradually bring their ideas to life.
Stay tuned for behind-the-scenes moments from BYR 2026.
