🇪🇺✨ SIMs Job Shadowing in Iasi – Romania
👥 Participants from Poland, Italy, Greece, Spain and Romania had the opportunity to visit Asociatia Suflet Senin, where they discovered an inspiring model of inclusion and support dedicated primarily to children and young people with Down syndrome and their families.
💙 Through its projects and activities, the association creates safe and empowering spaces where children with Down syndrome can develop their abilities, build self-confidence and actively participate in community life. At the same time, families receive guidance, encouragement and the reassurance that they are not alone on this journey.
🌱 During the visit, participants learned about:
🔹 therapeutic, educational and recreational activities adapted to the needs of children with Down syndrome;
🔹 initiatives that promote autonomy, communication and social skills;
🔹 opportunities for children and young people to discover and express their talents and potential;
🔹 the importance of family support and peer networks;
🔹 awareness-raising activities aimed at combating stereotypes and promoting acceptance and inclusion.
😊 What impressed the international youth workers most was the joy, warmth and genuine connections they witnessed. Beyond the services provided, they saw a community built on patience, empathy and the belief that every child deserves to be valued for who they are and encouraged to reach their full potential.
💡 The visit offered a powerful reminder that inclusion means creating opportunities for participation, celebrating diversity and focusing on abilities rather than limitations. It also inspired participants to reflect on how youth work can become more accessible and responsive to the needs of young people with disabilities and their families.
🤝 We congratulate the team of Asociatia Suflet Senin for their hospitality, openness and unwavering dedication to improving the lives of children with Down syndrome and promoting a more inclusive society.

🙂Within the SIMs – Social Inclusion Models in Youth Work Job Shadowing, participants from Poland, Italy, Greece, Spain and Romania had the opportunity to visit the Directorate General of Social Assistance and Child Protection (DGASPC) Iasi, with support of where they explored essential child protection services and learned about effective crisis intervention mechanisms designed to safeguard children's rights and wellbeing.
📞 A particular focus of the visit was the "Telefonul Copilului" (Child Helpline) service, developed in its current form since 2022 within the Emergency Social Services Centre. Participants discovered how this vital service provides immediate support, guidance and intervention for children exposed to abuse, neglect, violence or other situations of vulnerability.
🤝 The international group was welcomed by the professional responsible for this service, who shared valuable insights into the daily realities of working in child protection and emergency response.
💡 Participants learned that:
🔹 "Telefonul Copilului" operates through the Initial Assessment and Emergency Intervention Service;
🔹 the Iași team brings together one of the largest groups of specialists dedicated to this field in Romania;
🔹 more than 1,500 calls are handled each year, reflecting both the growing need for support and the team's commitment to protecting children at risk;
🔹 each call represents not just a statistic, but a child in need of safety, trust and professional support.
🌍 The visit encouraged meaningful discussions on child protection systems, early intervention, multidisciplinary cooperation and the role that youth workers and community organizations can play in identifying, preventing and responding to situations affecting children's wellbeing.
❤️ It was a powerful reminder that behind every effective service stand dedicated professionals whose empathy, expertise and rapid response can change – and sometimes save – lives.
🙏 We would like to express our sincere gratitude to the DGASPC Iași team for their openness, professionalism and willingness to share their experience and good practices with our international participants.
