Russian banks managed to earn more than a trillion rubles due to accelerated inflation in the country and a multiple increase in the Bank of Russia key rate.

The annual profit of credit institutions was estimated at 1.3 trillion roubles in January 2021 to reach 2.4 trillion roubles ten months later, Izvestia reports with reference to the forecast of analysts of the Expert RA rating agency.

The National Bank of Kazakhstan is implementing the digitalization of the financial sector. The important components of this work are the National Payment System and the digital tenge pilot project. The Ministry of Economic Development and the Ministry of Energy supported the idea of ​​designating mining as entrepreneurial activity.

There is still no regulation of mining activities in Russia, the Ministry of Finance told Izvestia. The Law on Digital Financial Assets (DFA) does not define “mining”, but includes a definition of “issuance of digital currency”. Over the next 10 years, Russia will be driving up the volume of card payments, outstripping the world’s major economies and strengthening its global leadership, predicts The Boston Consulting Group (BCG) in its study.

Analysts assume that revenues from non-cash payments in Russia will grow faster than in other Eastern European countries to soar twice as much in the next 10 years.

The regulations on the procedure for digital identification of customers was approved by the resolution of the Board of the Central Bank of Uzbekistan.

The Mir payment system expands the mobile payments applicability – starting from October 26, banks issuing the national cards will be able to start the technical implementation of the Google Pay service.

According to the technology bulletin of the payment system, this will allow Mir card holders to tokenize the cards on Android-powered devices to perform transactions using the service, Izvestia reports.

Russian President Vladimir Putin finds it necessary to empower the Bank of Russia to limit the volume of unsecured consumer loans.

“The Government of the Russian Federation, together with the State Duma and the Bank of Russia, shall ensure the adoption of a federal law to empower the Bank of Russia to impose direct quantitative restrictions on the amount of unsecured consumer credits (loans) provided by credit institutions and microfinance organizations,” reads the list of instructions of the head of state, published on the Kremlin website.

The Bank of Russia believes that banks should strengthen control over the replenishment of cards through ATMs and cash-in enabled terminals in order to combat fraud.

As a central bank’s spokesperson told RBC, anti-fraud procedures are still in place on the side of the destination bank. However, the anti-fraud procedures require more attention because fraudsters use the scenarios that provoke potential victims to deposit funds to the fraudsters’ accounts through terminals (ATMs), including those supporting the cash-in function.
