DA DA DA, the new project from Anastasia Klimova of the no wave/art pop outfit VESCH, debuts with Welcome to Nowhereville, a six track release on Incompetence Records. Recorded in Palekh before Klimova’s trip to Japan, the album draws loose inspiration from Ryuichi Sakamoto, Miharu Koshi, Jun Togawa and the graphic worlds of Shigeo Fukuda and Ikko Tanaka. There are the odd quirks and deviations from the blueprint of VESCH, but DA DA DA leans into conceptual fervour, warping pop to the outer fringes of possibility with twinkling synths, unresolved electronic washes and a lurid psych pop palette.

Welcome to Nowhereville moves like a slow burning experience, built from primal electronics, glossolalia, minimal drum machine patter and jagged sax lines.DA DA DA treats sound less like composition and more like exploration, sketching new possibilities with minimalist resources and turning skeletal forms into wistful, overtly beautiful vignettes. This record is a solid first step: private catharsis with the feel of a haunted carnival, balancing minimalist coldness and psychedelic light heartedness without ever sanding down the rough edges.
