Sometimes a story hits you. Even after years of working with stray dogs and shelter dogs, both at home and abroad.
My heart broke when I read about this dog — sitting so calmly in her kennel, despite the chaos around her — reaching out to the person filming her. It broke because she is one of thousands of heartbreaking cases.
In many regions, dogs are taken off the streets, sterilized or castrated, and then released again. Often not in the place they came from, but in a random location. With all the consequences that follow.
The sweet, social dogs rarely survive long on the streets.
Her story is one of thousands.
So familiar, so recognizable for so many dogs living the same fate. And at the same time, thousands of other dogs live an invisible life inside overcrowded shelters. From puppy to senior, they spend their lives behind bars — a life in captivity, without a future.
The dog in the video is one of the lucky ones: a private shelter stepped in and took her under their wing.
She will receive the best possible care — attention, safety, and a real chance at adoption.
A place where she is seen as an individual, not a number.
But her luck also highlights how rare this is.
For every dog who finds safety, thousands never get that chance.
From unseen to unforgettable.

Een tijdje geleden heb ik een berichtje geschreven over Rex. Rex is een hond van circa 5 jaar oud en hij was echt aan het wegkwijnen in een van Moskous mega opvangcentra, eentje met 3500 honden.
Hij is hieruit gered en in een tijdelijke opvang geplaatst, mede mogelijk gemaakt door een groepje mensen die hem financieel sponsoorden.
Onlangs is er iets geweldigs gebeurd! Hij heeft zijn gouden mandje gevonden, zijn eigen familie ♥️. En hij gaat nu door het leven als Tobi.
Berichtje van Dasha, de persoon die hem gered heeft uit het mega opvangcentrum:
"Good morning! Rex came to visit his mom last night. He said he was tired of constantly moving and decided to stay here.😃 The owner already has 3 dogs, one of which is named... Rexi🤷♀️🙂 Therefore, our graduate is now called TOBI. Toby has found himself in a fairy tale: a house where he can live on a bed🙂, with a large yard, garden, forest, and peace and quiet. Let's wish Rex-Toby a happy life. For me, this is the most important event of 2026! I would like to express my gratitude to all of you who have supported this wonderful dog throughout this time."

Dolce werd een paar jaar geleden gered uit een enorm opvangcentrum in Moskou, waar tot op de dag van vandaag meer dan 3500 honden verblijven. In die massa raakte ze zichzelf kwijt. Ze liep eindeloze rondjes in haar kennel, gevangen in haar eigen onrust.
Toen ze eindelijk uit die situatie werd gehaald en in een rustige, tijdelijke opvang terechtkwam, begon ze weer te ontspannen. Heel langzaam, stap voor stap. Ze bloeide op tot de zachte, lieve hond die ze altijd al was.
Sinds enkele maanden verblijft Dolce in Duitsland, waar ze geduldig wacht op haar forever family. Tot die tijd wordt ze omringd door liefde, aandacht en de rust die ze zo lang heeft moeten missen.
