This September, we are joining the conversation on su***de prevention.

World Su***de Prevention Day is observed on 10 September. The 2024–2026 theme is “Changing the Narrative on Su***de,” with the 2026 call to action: “Start the Conversation.”

As we approach the day, let’s challenge stigma, listen without judgement and encourage people to seek support when they need it.

Together, we can help create more open and supportive communities.

Day 2 of Local Leaders Training

Day 2 of the leadership training continued Rwamagana, Rutsiro, Ruhango and Nyamasheke, bringing leaders together to deepen their understanding of MHPSS and its connection to rehabilitation, reintegration, reconciliation and socio-economic empowerment from the CBS perspective.

Through reflection and practical learning, leaders explored common psychosocial and trauma-related reactions and how personal emotional wounds can influence leadership. They also discussed ways to reduce stigma, promote resilience and social connectedness, and apply servant and trauma-informed leadership approaches.

These skills are essential in supporting rehabilitation and the reintegration of ex-inmates, facilitating restorative dialogue and creating spaces where people can heal without being re-traumatized.

From darkness to hope, from tears to laughter. ❤️

Today in Ruhango, 3 Mvura Nkuvure groups celebrated the completion of 15 weeks together.

They reflected on how they began their journey feeling lost, living in darkness and with little hope for tomorrow. As the weeks went by, they began to find themselves again.

They shared their journeys through sketches, songs, poems and personal testimonies, each one telling a story of where they came from and how far they have come.

One Gospel song they recommended during the celebration beautifully reflected their experience:

“In a time of despair, you gave me back my life. Those who once cried are now laughing; they have come with songs of praise.” 🎶

Their celebration was a moment to honour their journey, their courage and the hope they now carry forward.

Congratulations to all 3 groups on completing 15 weeks of Mvura Nkuvure.

A moment worth celebrating in Rutunga, Gasabo District!

Sociotherapy graduates of the programme celebrated their achievement through heartfelt testimonies, poems, dances, and sketches that reflected their experiences and the journey they have walked together.

One graduate shared a powerful story of how she used to avoid commemoration after losing her mother and siblings without having the chance to bury them. Through the programme, she discovered the value of remembrance, resilience, and unity, and shared that she will now join others during commemoration.

Every testimony shared was a reminder that healing is a journey, and together communities can find strength and hope.

I used to sleep with a machete under my pillow because I felt I could kill my wife."

At the Rutsiro District Conviviality, a participant shared a powerful testimony about his journey of change through Mvura Nkuvuvure.

He attended the conviviality with his wife, whom he invited to share in the moment. His wife also gave her testimony, reflecting on the difficult experiences she had gone through in their marriage and the changes she has witnessed.

She shared that since her husband joined Mvura Nkuvure, violence has stopped, peace has returned to their home, and they are now living happily together. She expressed that the sorrow they once carried has been replaced by hope and renewed connection.

Their testimony is a reminder that healing can rebuild relationships, restore trust, and bring positive change within families.
