Exploring Seaweed Polysaccharide Nanoparticles in Biotechnology

The study asks a genuinely compelling question: do nanoparticles synthesized from sulfated polysaccharides (naturally derived from seaweed) inhibit the activity of microbes and cancer cells? It's a project that sits right at the intersection of marine biology, nanotechnology, and biomedical science.

The research followed a rigorous experimental design:

🔬 Extraction: Sulfated polysaccharides were isolated from seaweed through a multi-step solvent process (methanol, chloroform, and water) to remove fats and pigments, followed by boiling, filtration, and ethanol precipitation to yield the purified polysaccharide.

🧪 Synthesis: The extracted polysaccharides were dissolved and combined with a metal solution, then sonicated until a visible color change confirmed nanoparticle formation, a green, biologically derived route to nanoparticle synthesis.

🧫 Testing: The resulting nanoparticles were evaluated across bacterial strains, fungal strains, and cancer cell lines, examining antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and anticancer activity at varying concentrations.

What stands out most is the scientific maturity behind the work: a clear hypothesis, carefully controlled variables (pH and temperature held constant while polysaccharide type and nanoparticle size were varied), and a testing protocol designed to validate the central question.

Sustainable, marine-derived nanomedicine is a field with real promise, and it's inspiring to see that promise being explored by the next generation of scientists.

Visiting the American International School Riyadh (AISR) was truly inspiring. The beautifully organized campus and modern infrastructure reflect a strong commitment to excellence and innovation.

I was especially impressed by how students actively engaged through EdTech, turning learning into an interactive, creative, and collaborative experience.

The remarkable practices and solution introduced during the conference can serve as a model for positive transformation in International schools across Saudi Arabia—empowering more students to thrive and shape the future.

Day 1 of the “From Vision to Action, Together” event, hosted at the British International School Riyadh (BISR), focused on bridging EdTech, and Digital Strategies.

The day featured a welcome address and Keynote Speaker, followed by sessions on Cybersecurity and Data Protection (by 9ine) and a demonstration of Classroom Interactive Screens (by BenQ).

Presentations conducted on Google Workspace and Gemini AI (by AppsEdu).
