NeuroSey Services
No longer a service now a resource page and now run therapist facilitated support groups.
This is Entrapta, a character from She-Ra and the Princesses of Power.
Last year, one of my students asked whether Entrapta might be autistic or have ADHD.
Of course, we cannot diagnose fictional characters. However, Entrapta is a thoughtful and interesting example of how "neurodifference" can be represented in media.
In the show, Entrapta:
✅focuses very deeply on her interests
✅enjoys routines, patterns, and systems
✅communicates in a direct and literal way
✅finds unspoken social rules difficult
✅shows strong interests in science and technology, sometimes to the point of missing social expectations (for example, loyalty to whoever provides her the parts for her machine rather than people)
Importantly, the show does not show her as broken. She was not required to change who she is to be accepted. Her differences are treated as part of her identity. Entrapta can be seen as a positive example of what neurodiversity can look like in girls and women who are frequently underrepresented in the media.
Needing support in some areas does not mean your child is not able to do great things in other areas. As clinicians we also need to focus more on areas of strengths and building those strengths. We also need to know how to talk to families with kindness and compassion.

✨ Correlation ≠ Causation ✨
Just because two things are related doesn’t mean one causes the other.
Example: Let's say a scientist find a positive correlation between the number of people who go to Beau Vallon Beach 🌊 and shark attacks in the south of Mahé 🦈. Does that mean if we all swim at Beau Vallon, we cause more shark attacks?🤔Of course not! Many other factors would be affecting the shark attacks.
This is the danger of misinformation especially around autism.
❌ People want something to blame.
❌ Quick fixes.
❌ Spread Stigma
❌ Blame parents
…when in reality, autism is a neurodiverse condition that society still struggles to fully accept.
This is the fact: many pregnant women take Panadol. The majority of their children are not diagnosed with autism. If Panadol really “caused” autism, then 8–9 out of every 10 children would have autism which is not the case!
I urge you to stay informed. Stay open-minded. Not everything you hear is based on real data. 🤍🙏🏽

These are not diagnostic criteria but often the signs parent notice and report to clinicians early on. Its important to know because early interventions leads to better outcomes in the future. I will post more on why early intervention matters from a neuroscience perspectives but for now. Some things to consider☝🏾

The stigma around mental health in general has greatly impacted on how men interact with mental health services or whether they even do. Especially in Seychelles where we still teach young boys to "be strong", not to show emotions and that "boys dont cry".
For Men's Health Week let's pout a spotlight on Men's Mental Health 💡🩵

The second point is to account for some of the things people have told me in the past. Being autistic isnt a curse its just a different brain wiring. Autism doesnt need a cure it needs understanding and inclusion.

What we have learned so far from research.
Typo: Autism in ON a spectrum

This week is Autism Awareness week. Here are a few things we have learned about autism in the past decade (well more like 15 years).
This will be a series of posts.
