🇸🇨 Youth Shaping the Climate Future of Seychelles
On Saturday, 26 September 2026, more than 40 young people met for the Seychelles Local Conference of Youth (LCOY) Pre-Consultation Meeting, creating a vibrant space for youth to share their priorities, perspectives and solutions for climate action.
The Forum was officially opened by Minister Kalsey Belle, setting the stage for meaningful youth-led discussions around three key themes: Ocean & Marine Ecosystems, Climate Justice & SIDS Vulnerability, and Youth Activism & Climate Policy.
Participants also explored Seychelles’ Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) and how young people can play a stronger role in its implementation and monitoring
💬 Most importantly, the Forum gave young Seychellois the opportunity to make their voices heard. Their priorities and recommendations will contribute to the wider LCOY process and feed into a regional youth statement aimed at informing discussions at COP31.
The Forum was convened in collaboration with the Government of Seychelles, the United Nations Resident Coordinator’s Office for Mauritius and Seychelles, UNDP Seychelles through its initiative, the NDC Partnership, and other stakeholders, reinforcing a shared commitment to ensuring that young people are not only part of the climate conversation, but active partners in shaping Seychelles’ climate future.
💚 When young people have a seat at the table, climate action becomes more inclusive, ambitious and responsive to the future they want to build.

🌍Strengthening Biodiversity Awareness in Seychelles
On 14 September 2026, UNDP officially handed over a range of educational materials and visibility products developed under the Global Biodiversity Framework Early Action Support (GBF-EAS) Project.
These materials are the result of extensive stakeholder engagement and collaboration undertaken during the process of updating Seychelles' National Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan (NBSAP). Designed to raise awareness and promote understanding of biodiversity conservation, they will support continued outreach, education, and action towards achieving Seychelles' national biodiversity targets and the goals of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework.
The handover reflects UNDP's commitment to supporting the Government of Seychelles in strengthening biodiversity knowledge, fostering public engagement, and ensuring that biodiversity remains at the heart of sustainable development efforts. Learn more about the initiative👇

🇸🇨Seychelles Takes a Major Step Forward for Biodiversity Conservation
Around 80 stakeholders from government, civil society, academia, the private sector, community organizations, and development partners gathered on 4 September 2026 to validate key national frameworks that will guide biodiversity conservation efforts in Seychelles in the years ahead.🌳🐟🐦
Participants reviewed and validated: ✅ The revised National Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan (NBSAP) ✅ The Gender Plan of Action ✅ The NBSAP Monitoring and Evaluation Framework ✅ The NBSAP Implementation Plan
In her opening remarks, the UNDP Resident Representative, Alka Bhatia, highlighted that the NBSAP represents a shared national roadmap for safeguarding Seychelles' unique biodiversity while supporting sustainable development. She emphasized that the revision process, initiated in 2024 through the Global Biodiversity Framework Early Action Support (GBF-EAS) Project and further supported under the GEF-8 Umbrella Programme, was built on extensive stakeholder consultations across Mahé, Praslin and La Digue, ensuring broad national ownership of the strategy.
🌍 The revised NBSAP aligns with Seychelles' national development priorities and international commitments under the Convention on Biological Diversity, the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework, the Sustainable Development Goals, and the Paris Agreement.
UNDP Seychelles reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the Government and people of Seychelles in translating the ambitions of the NBSAP into tangible action for biodiversity conservation and sustainable natural resource management.

🕊️ World Humanitarian Day is a time to honour humanitarian workers and to stand with people affected by crises around the world. When lives are at risk, the people who come to help should never be targets.
Attacks on humanitarian personnel have consequences far beyond the individuals directly affected. They interrupt food deliveries, health care, protection and other life-saving services, leaving communities with even fewer ways to survive and recover.
