Seychelles Coast Guard Officer Completes Maritime Security Course

Captain Ricky Leon, Commanding Officer of Patrol Ship Andromache of the Seychelles Coast Guard, has successfully completed a one-month Strengthening Maritime Security course at the Naval Postgraduate School (NPS) in Monterey, California.

The one month course, focused on strengthening knowledge and capabilities in maritime security and enhancing professional expertise in addressing contemporary maritime security challenges.

Upon completion, Captain Leon was awarded a Certificate in Strengthening Maritime Security by the Defense Security Cooperation University (DSCU).

The Seychelles Defence Forces congratulates Captain Leon on this achievement and his continued commitment to strengthening Seychelles’ maritime security capabilities.

On August 13, The Seychelles Defence Forces (SDF) gratefully accepted a donation of equipment from the Government of India, including Main Electronic Units (MEUs), specialised Dornier aircraft tools, safety helmets and seamanship ropes for the Seychelles Coast Guard.

The donation will contribute to the continued operational readiness, safety and serviceability of SDF assets.

Le français, au cœur de la coopération de défense franco-seychelloise 🇫🇷🇸🇨

Ce jeudi 6 août, une cérémonie de remise de diplômes de langue française s’est tenue en présence du Major général Michael Rosette, commandant des Seychelles Defence Forces (SDF), pour récompenser des militaires seychellois ayant suivi une formation en français.

Organisée à l’initiative de l’Ambassade de France, en partenariat avec l’Alliance Française des Seychelles, cette formation illustre l’importance de la langue française dans la coopération de défense entre la France et les Seychelles.

Au-delà d’une compétence linguistique, la maîtrise du français constitue un véritable outil de coopération, permettant aux militaires seychellois de participer pleinement aux formations, d’échanger avec leurs homologues francophones et de renforcer leurs compétences professionnelles.

La cérémonie a également permis de saluer l’engagement de Carla Jorge, directrice de l’Alliance Française des Seychelles, qui quittera ses fonctions à la fin du mois d’août. Elle sera remplacée par Anne-Charlotte Henry, qui prendra ses fonctions dès septembre.

Cette initiative témoigne une nouvelle fois de la volonté commune de la France et des Seychelles de renforcer durablement leur partenariat et leur coopération en matière de défense. 🇫🇷🤝🇸🇨

⚽🇸🇨 From Service to the Football Pitch: SDF Women Making Their Mark

The Seychelles Defence Forces proudly celebrates Corporal Veena Cadeau and Private Kimbelly Chang Tak Hue, two SDF members who continue to excel on the football pitch.

Corporal Cadeau serves in the SDF Procurement Department and currently playing in STARLET FC, has over 20 years of football experience. After a seven-year break from active football, she made a strong comeback in 2024 pre-season, her outstanding performances earned her 1st Best Senior Female Player for the 2025/2026 season.

Private Chang Tak Hue, who serves in the SDF Admin Department, plays for TIGERS FC. A passionate footballer from a young age, she was named Best Football Player in 2023, additionally she has also been recognised as the 3rd Best Senior Player in the Women’s League for the 2025/2026 season.

Now, both SDF athletes are preparing to represent Seychelles at the Olympic Qualification Tournament in Kenya in October 2026🇸🇨⚽

The SDF proudly congratulates Corporal Cadeau and Private Chang Tak Hue and wishes them every success as they continue to serve, compete and represent Seychelles with pride.
