FATHERLY HEART

READ: Matthew 6:6-15
Be ye therefore merciful, as your Father also is merciful.
Luke 6:36

A father has a lot of patience. Anyone who has a lot of patience will have a lot of children. Fathers are able to wait for people to change and improve. A father will be there when the change finally comes. Fathers have space in their hearts for all sorts of people. They can see that after several falls, a shining star will be born.
That is why the prodigal son’s father called for the best robe and for a ring to be brought out for the wretched returnee. Notice how the elder brother, who had no fathering abilities, was angered by the return of his brother!
The fathering heart has big latitude to accommodate all sorts of excursions made by potential sons and daughters. If our Heavenly Father did not have this heart of love, which of us would be a son today?
A father provides for his children. This role of a father is seen in the Lord’s Prayer, where we ask our Father to give us daily bread. We also ask Him to deliver us from evil and to help us. A real father helps and provides. Providing for children is the main duty of a father.
Receiving honour and gifts is not the main function of a father. If you are fortunate, some of your children will remember and honour you. Receiving honour and gifts is simply a privilege that you may or may not receive as a father. Fathers must provide direction! Fathers must provide protection! Fathers must provide for the needs of their children.

CONFUSION

READ: Daniel 9:7-8
When He looked out over the crowds, his heart broke. So confused and aimless they were, like sheep with no shepherd.
Matthew 9:36 (Message Bible)

As you go higher in the ministry , confusion will become one of your dreaded enemies. During times of confusion, you will ask the question, “Is this right or is this wrong?” When you are affected by the spirit of confusion, you will grapple with what I call “grey areas”. You will wrestle with issues which are not clearly spelt out in the Bible. You will be uncertain of yourself and need great faith to proceed. You will become like the patriarchs of old who had no Bibles guiding them but had to walk by the faith of what they believed God had told them.
Indeed, at such times of confusion, a shepherd’s direction would be the most calming and reassuring thing you could have. You will only understand what I am talking about when you get to that stage.
Your confusion is perpetuated by your separation from your shepherd. Because Israel had sinned, they were perpetually separated from the Lord and this created even more confusion for them. Daniel said, “...to us belong confusion of faces because we have sinned” (Daniel 9:8).
Draw close to the Lord and draw close to your shepherd. It will deliver you from the spirit of confusion in your ministry . One day , your shepherd will give you a glimpse of how he overcame the very problem that you have today . You will be encouraged by the fact that your shepherd had the same problem that you now have. You will receive light and wisdom on how to overcome today

YOUR RESPONSE?

If you were God and you had six billion people to save, what would you do? Would you send one or two people to save them or would you send a lot of people? Of course, you would send many people into the fields of harvest. And that is exactly what God has done. He has called many people!
Do not be deceived by the few pastors you see sitting on the front rows of churches. That always gives the impression that a few have been called, or that the majority of the congregation have not been called. Actually , it is the exact opposite. Many , and not just a few pastors, are called to the work of saving the world.
Sadly , most pastors treat their congregations as people who do not have a call. They relate to them as people who cannot do much for God. Most pastors teach their congregations how to have “a better life”. Much of the preaching is about ourselves, our lives, our marriages, our homes, our finances, etc. This kind of preaching is what creates the large, selfish and barren congregations of today.
“And you, be ye fruitful, and multiply; bring forth abundantly in the earth, and multiply therein” (Genesis 9:7). There is a call to fruitfulness. What is your response?

MINDSET

Dear brothers and sisters, don’t be childish in your understanding of these things …but be mature and wise in understanding matters of this kind.
1 Corinthians 14:20 (NLT)

When a person is in leadership and has the mind of a child he does not understand anything that is a little complex. You must study leadership, understand leadership, and practise appropriate principles of leadership otherwise you may lead people with the mind of a child.
Richer nations like the USA and Australia absolutely rejected the idea of freely trading with England at the expense of not developing their own industries. They understood the complex nature of simply opening their borders to cheap imports.
Leaders of poor countries have swallowed the concepts of globalization and free trade with their negative implications of de-industrialization, de-agriculturalization and de-population of cities. Industries and farms have been wiped out in nations which wholeheartedly accepted these policies without understanding the complex implications they would have on the rest of the nation.
These complexities are not obvious to leaders who are like children. The fact that someone who sells iPads and iPhones and iPods will always be at an advantage over someone who sells oranges and cocoa, is not easily understood by leaders who announce that their emphasis will be on agriculture.
It is obvious when an unlearned person is at the helm of affairs. Such people do not read nor do they understand the implications of things they are saying and doing.
