Divino Sabino sworn in as Attorney General

Mr Divino Junior Sabino was officially sworn in as the new Attorney General this afternoon at State House, in the presence of President Dr Patrick Herminie, Chief Justice Mr Rony Govinden, Leader of Government Business Honourable Sylvanne Lemiel, and Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly Honourable Egbert Aglae.

The accreditation of Angola’s new non-resident Ambassador to Seychelles on Tuesday is opening a fresh chapter in nearly four decades of diplomatic relations, with President Dr Patrick Herminie calling for the longstanding friendship between the two countries to translate into stronger and more concrete cooperation.

Ambassador Domingos de Almeida da Silva Coelho formally presented his credentials to President Herminie at State House, marking the start of his tenure as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Angola to Seychelles.

The swearing-in ceremony of Mr Divino Sabino as the Attorney General of the Republic of Seychelles is currently taking place in the presence of President Dr Patrick Herminie, Chief Justice Mr Ronny Govinden, Leader of Government Business Mrs. Sylvanne Lemiel, senior government officials, family members and distinguished guests.

Mr Sabino is taking the Oath of Allegiance, followed by the Official Oath, as he formally assumes the office of Attorney General.

President Dr Patrick Herminie received the Letters of Credence of H.E. Mr. Saad Abdullah Alnofaia, Ambassador-designate of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to the Republic of Seychelles, during an accreditation ceremony held this morning at State House.

Following the ceremony, President Herminie and Ambassador Alnofaia held discussions on the bilateral relations between Seychelles and Saudi Arabia, reaffirming the long-standing friendship between the two countries and their shared interest in further strengthening co-operation.

Vice-President Sebastien Pillay has departed Seychelles for the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, where he will hold follow-up discussions with officials of the Arab Bank for Economic Development in Africa (BADEA).

The visit follows bilateral discussions held between President Dr Patrick Herminie and BADEA President, Mr Abdullah KH Almusaibeeh, on the margins of the 46th Ordinary SADC Summit in Durban recently. The discussions focused on strengthening financial cooperation between Seychelles and BADEA, with a view to identifying potential financing opportunities in support of national development priorities.
