Your llama or alpaca speaks long before they react.
Are you noticing the signs?
What is your animal telling you... before they speak loudly?

When people think about alpaca/llama body language, they usually look at the ears. But that’s only part of the story, and not the most important part.

A truly observant camelid owner watches the whole animal:

► Which feet are carrying weight?
► Where is the nose pointed?
► Is the animal breathing quickly?
► Are they holding their breath?
► Are they swallowing or drooling?
► Are they unnaturally still?

These small signs often go unnoticed, even by experienced owners. But they are the early warning system. If you miss them, you miss the moment to soften your energy, take a break, or step away, before things escalate.

If your alpaca or llama gets to the point of spitting, kicking, or trying to flee, the real opportunity to help them feel safe has already passed.

Blast from the past.

Teaching Camelidynamics has taken me all around the world. This is a photo of me in Sweden.

It was involved in a "best farmer" competition, which included milking, using a tractor, and my friend Ann Marie convinced them to include leading an alpaca through an obstacle course. It was also a lot of fun!
