We are saddened by the frequent collapse of buildings in the Nation's capital.
In the early hours of today, a 5-storey building collapsed at Kissy Shell, New Road, in the Eastern part of Freetown.
Two children have been rescued alive, but reports say many people are still trapped under the rubble, sparking a large-scale rescue operation.
What cause of the collapse is still yet to be disclosed but according to observation structural weaknesses, substandard iron rods and substandard building materials imported into the country could be the cause.
This is a saddest day, the Ministry of Trade should act fast to address the issue of building materials being used in the country.
As the emergency response is doing its best to save those trapped, the incident has ignited public outcry, with many demanding stricter regulations and oversight in the construction industry.
May Allah save us from such incidents🙏.
