World Ranger Day 💪🏾

It’s the one day each year dedicated to the people who rarely stand in the spotlight: the rangers.

They often work behind the scenes, but their role is essential. At Tacugama, our rangers and eco-guards work across different protected areas in Sierra Leone.

Within the past few months, in partnership with the WFP | World Food Programme , we have recruited 98 additional Eco-guards🙌🏽

They are our eyes and ears in the forest. They patrol remote areas, remove snares, monitor wildlife, build strong relationships with local communities, respond to reports of wildlife crime, support chimpanzee rescues when needed, and help protect one of the country’s most important natural landscapes.

We were delighted to welcome the Sharafdeen family from MultiTech Africa SL LTD to Tacugama. They didn’t just come to experience the sanctuary and meet the rescued chimpanzees, they also surprised us with an incredibly thoughtful gift.

💡Their donation of six solar lighting kits will help illuminate our visitor areas, making the sanctuary more welcoming and accessible for everyone who comes to learn about Sierra Leone’s wildlife.

Conservation is about more than protecting wildlife. It’s about people coming together, sharing ideas and finding practical ways to make a difference.
