On our journey to Kenema, we met an extraordinary woman whose hands are preserving Sierra Leone's cultural heritage, one thread at a time.

Meet Adama Musa, a traditional weaver who transformed hardship into opportunity.

After her small trading business collapsed because of rising prices and financial losses, Adama refused to give up. Instead, she made a life-changing decision to learn a skill that would secure her future.

"I needed a skill that no one could take away from me," she says.

Through determination, patience, and countless hours of practice, she mastered the art of traditional weaving. Today, every piece she creates carries generations of history and is proudly worn during chieftaincy ceremonies and other important cultural celebrations across Sierra Leone.

But her dream goes beyond weaving.

She hopes to establish a vocational training centre where women and young people can learn this timeless craft without the financial barriers she once faced. Despite challenges such as limited access to quality materials and workspace, she continues to weave with passion and purpose.

Her journey reminds us that preserving culture begins with investing in the people who keep it alive.

This is why we travel. This is why we document. This is why these stories matter.
