IGP Fayia Sellu Inspects Rehabilitation of New Masingbi Police Divisional Headquarters

Masingbi, Tonkolili District, June 12, 2026 – Inspector General of Police (IGP) William Fayia Sellu on Thursday visited Masingbi to inspect the ongoing rehabilitation of facilities that will soon serve as the new Police Divisional Headquarters for the area.

The upgrade marks a significant milestone for policing in Masingbi and its surrounding communities. Previously, Masingbi operated only as a police station under the command of an Officer Commanding (O/C). However, due to increased population growth, rising workload, and the need for faster and more effective security responses, the Police Leadership deemed it necessary to elevate the station to divisional status.

With the upgrade, the area will now be headed by a Local Unit Commander (LUC), bringing improved administrative and operational capacity to law enforcement services in the region.

The new division will also introduce key police departments that were previously unavailable in Masingbi. These include the Family Support Unit (FSU), Criminal Investigation Department (CID), Community Relations Department (CRD), and Traffic Department, among others. The development is expected to enhance service delivery and strengthen security within Masingbi and neighboring communities.

During his inspection, IGP Sellu assessed the progress of rehabilitation works and expressed optimism that the facility would be ready for commissioning next weekend.

The idea to establish the divisional headquarters originated during one of the IGP's official journeys to Kono District. While traveling along the Magburaka-Kono highway, he noticed several well-constructed buildings that had been erected by SALCOST, the road construction company responsible for the highway project.

The structures were originally used to accommodate company personnel during the road construction works. However, following the completion of the project, the buildings were left abandoned.

Recognizing their potential value, IGP Sellu proposed that the facilities be converted into police infrastructure rather than remain unused. Following consultations with relevant police authorities, local stakeholders, and the Paramount Chief, consensus was reached to transform the structures into a modern police divisional headquarters.

The initiative is expected to significantly improve policing, public safety, and community engagement across Masingbi and the wider area.
