Day 2 — Pray for Students Taking National Exams: This month, six of our students will sit for the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE), an exam that will allow them to move on to secondary school in September. At the same time, several of our young adults are completing the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) as they prepare for university opportunities. Pray for wisdom, focus, confidence, and peace as they take these exams. We pray that God will bless their hard work and open doors for their futures.

Prayer has always been an important part of The Raining Season’s story. Time and time again, we have seen God provide, protect, and make a way where there seemed to be no way. This week, we invite you to join us in prayer. Whether you pray once or every day, please know that your prayers matter to our children, staff, and community.

Day 1 — Pray for the Team Serving in Sierra Leone
A team has been serving alongside us in Sierra Leone over the past week. These visits create opportunities for encouragement, relationship-building, and hands-on ministry with both our children, staff, and the surrounding community. Pray that their remaining time in-country would be productive and meaningful. We pray for strengthened relationships, lasting impact, and safe travels as they prepare to return home.

Some traditions become especially meaningful over time. At The Raining Season, one of those traditions is Salma’s annual birthday visit to The Covering. At the end of May, Salma returned to celebrate her birthday with our children and staff for the ninth year. What began years ago through a simple connection has grown into a tradition of generosity, kindness, and community.

This year’s visit was another incredible blessing. Salma arrived at The Covering with a large donation of supplies to support the daily needs of the children in our care. She also brought two beautiful birthday cakes along with food and refreshments to share with everyone. The children were excited to gather together to celebrate, sing, and enjoy this special occasion.

Join us in celebrating the Day of the African Child!

Each year, on June 16th, countries all across Africa, including Sierra Leone, take time to honor and reflect on the power, promise, and potential of its youngest generation. At The Raining Season, the Day of the African Child is more than a commemorative event.  It celebrates resilience, hope, and the importance of education and advocacy for every child.

From our toddlers to our young adults, we see firsthand the incredible promise of Sierra Leone’s children. Through the ongoing support of people like you, we are committed to ensuring that every child who walks through our gates knows they are seen, valued, and deeply loved.

This week on the blog, we shared a sponsorship story from Seward, Nebraska, where the Concordia University Nebraska football team has been sponsoring Sullay since early 2025.

The sponsorship is coordinated by Head Coach Patrick Daberkow, who first learned about The Raining Season through one of his assistant coaches. What began as a simple introduction quickly became an opportunity for the team to put their faith into action.

“We have a lot of able-bodied young men in our program, and James 1:27 calls us, in no uncertain terms, to care for widows and orphans,” Coach Daberkow shared. “We are trying to live that out with our team in tangible ways. With the connection and introduction to The Raining Season, it seemed like a great opportunity for our guys to live that out collectively.”

The sponsorship is truly a team effort. Inside the locker room sits a wooden box with Sullay’s picture next to it where players can contribute cash whenever they are able. Each month, enough is collected to cover Sullay’s sponsorship.

Last week on the blog, we gave a glimpse into a typical day at The Covering for Davida, who just celebrated her 13th birthday last week!

Davida has called The Raining Season home for nearly seven years. She is quiet but radiates joy and has such a caring heart. Her favorite colors are pink and blue, she loves chicken and rice, and one of her favorite things to do is play balance ball with her friends.

Her day at The Covering begins early as the children wake up, eat breakfast, complete chores, and get ready for school. After morning activities are complete, it is time for school. Davida attends The Raining Season Preparatory School alongside children from both TRS and the surrounding community. She is currently in Grade 5 and is doing very well in school because learning is important to her. In the classroom, she spends her day studying subjects like reading, math, science, and social studies. She especially enjoys reading.

As the school year in Sierra Leone will draw to a close in July, our children are diligently preparing for their end-of-year exams. Last week, twenty-one children from The Raining Season’s Preparatory School, including Esther K., Teange, Alex, and Esther L. from TRS, took the National Primary School Examination (NPSE).

These students have spent months studying, attending classes faithfully, completing assignments, and preparing for this important moment. We are incredibly proud of the hard work, perseverance, and dedication they have shown throughout the year.

On April 24th, our children at The Raining Season Preparatory School had the exciting opportunity to participate in one of the most anticipated events of the school year, Sports Day! It was a day full of energy, laughter, teamwork, and memories for the students, their families, and our staff.

Sports Day was held on an even larger scale this year, as it also included the new Raining Season Junior Secondary School students. Many children who no longer live at The Covering returned to watch, along with many family members and supporters from the community. It was a fun day for everyone.
