TENSION RISES IN NIMIYAMA CHIEFDOM OVER THE DISCOVERY OF A DEAD BODY AND A SKELETAL REMAINS OF A COMMERCIAL MOTORCYCLIST

On Friday, 26th June 2026, at about 1400 hours, a distress call was received at the Motema Police Division reporting the discovery of a dead body and a human skeletal remains in a bush between Gbetwema and Dombadu villages, Nimiyama Chiefdom, Kono District. Upon receipt of the information, the Operations Team, together with detectives led by the Operations Officer, Inspector Abubakarr Kamara, immediately proceeded to the scene.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the first deceased, identified as Abdul Turay, alias "Matta," aged 28, of Matonkor Village, Konikay Sanda Chiefdom, Tonkolili District, who had been riding a blue unregistered HLX motorcycle, was found lying lifeless beside the Gbawama Stream.
During a subsequent search of the surrounding bush, the skeletal remains of another commercial motorcyclist, identified as Joseph Koroma, alias "Ajero," of Yonmanja Village, Nimiyama Chiefdom, were also discovered. Joseph Koroma had reportedly been missing for approximately five to six months.

The crime scene was secured, examined, and photographed by investigators. The body of Abdul Turay was conveyed to the Koidu Government Hospital mortuary for preservation and a post-mortem examination to establish the cause of death. The skeletal remains of Joseph Koroma were recovered, and arrangements are being made for appropriate forensic examination to assist the ongoing investigation.

Following the discovery, a group of angry youths and fellow commercial motorcyclists associated with the late Joseph Koroma gathered and threw stones at the residence of the Paramount Chief, Chief George Bockarie Torto, expressing their frustration over the incident. The Operations Team responded swiftly, restored law and order, dispersed the crowd, and prevented further escalation.

The security situation in the area is currently calm and remains under close police monitoring, while investigations into both deaths continue.

Tankoro Police Arrest Suspected Drug Dealer with Cannabis and Tramadol in Kono District

The Tankoro Police Divisional Headquarters in Kono District, under the leadership of Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) Dr. Sahr Nyuma, has arrested a man identified as Sheriff Koroma, popularly known as "Mystic," for alleged possession of prohibited drugs.

According to police reports, officers recovered 95 bundles of dry leaves believed to be Cannabis Sativa and quantities of Tramadol during a targeted operation within the district. The suspect and the recovered substances are currently in police custody as investigations continue.

The operation was conducted by a team led by Mr. Sanu, Support Officer; Mr. Sesay, Operations (OPS) Officer; and Mr. Hassan Rogers, Officer Commanding (OC) Drugs, who have been actively supporting efforts to curb the spread of harmful drugs across Kono District.

Police say a thorough investigation has been launched to establish the full circumstances surrounding the case and to identify any possible links to wider drug trafficking networks.

The arrest is part of the ongoing campaign championed by the Local Unit Commander, CSP Dr. Sahr Nyuma, to crack down on drug abuse and eradicate drug-related criminal activities in Kono District.

Residents have been encouraged to continue cooperating with the police by providing information that will help keep communities safe and free from the menace of harmful drugs.
