πŸ“’ PRESS RELEASE | 18 June 2026

Today, on the International Day for Countering Hate Speech, Junub Open Space - JOS is proud to officially launch The Kuluna Project – "All of Us", a national initiative committed to countering hate speech, promoting peaceful dialogue, strengthening civic participation, and protecting democratic values in South Sudan.

As our country prepares for an important democratic journey, we believe that peace begins with the words we choose. Hate speech divides communities, fuels mistrust, and threatens social cohesion. Through The Kuluna Project, we are creating platforms for dialogue, empowering young people with digital literacy, supporting fact-based public discourse, and fostering partnerships that build a more peaceful and inclusive society.

In line with this year's global theme, "The Power of Partnerships in Countering Hate Speech," we invite government institutions, civil society organizations, media houses, educational institutions, faith-based organizations, development partners, the private sector, and every citizen to join this movement.

Together, we can replace hate with hope, misinformation with truth, and division with unity.

Read our official press release below and discover how you can partner with us to advance peace and democracy in South Sudan.

KULUNA – ALL OF US

Counter Hate Speech. Promote Dialogue. Build Peace. Protect Democracy.

As November 25th, marks the start of the
16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence and the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women.

We at Junub Open Space - JOS are focusing on this year's crucial theme: UNiTE to End Digital Violence against All Women and Girls.

πŸ›‘ DIGITAL VIOLENCE IS REAL VIOLENCE.

The abuse happening on your phone, in your DMs, or in the comments section is NOT "just online." It is a calculated violation of human rights designed to silence, shame, and control women and girls in our community.

You might be asking What is Digital Violence?

It is any act of gender-based violence committed, assisted, or aggravated by technology. This includes:

Cyberbullying and constant trolling.

Threats and doxxing (sharing private information).

Non-consensual sharing of images.

The harm is real. The fear is real. The impact on education, business, and mental health is real.

Take the pledge to stop minimizing digital abuse. Call it out when you see it, and commit to being part of the solution.
