Yesterday, Similie hosted the launch information session for Similie Experts, our new AI-powered document intelligence platform built specifically for NGOs, private companies and development partners working in Timor-Leste.
We had the privilege of welcoming representatives from organisations across Dili to Similie Academy, where we showcased how Similie Experts can help teams unlock their institutional knowledge. From searching across 17+ document formats in plain language to generating reports grounded in your own data, all stored locally, with no data leaving Timor-Leste.
One of the biggest challenges in the development sector is knowledge loss when staff rotate. Similie Experts is designed to solve exactly that, keeping your organisation's knowledge where it belongs, with your organisation.
Thank you to everyone who joined us yesterday. We're excited about the conversations that started and look forward to working with you to bring Similie Experts to your teams.
Want to know more? Contact us at [email protected] to request a demo or you can come attend our next information session that we will hold at the beginning of next month.
Ask us anything. Our Experts are standing by. Message Similie for more.

Introducing Similie Experts — AI-powered document intelligence, built for Timor-Leste.
Whether you run an NGO, a development programme, or a private company, your organisation is sitting on years of invaluable knowledge. Field assessments, programme reports, contracts, feasibility studies, proposals, evaluations. Most of it is impossible to find when you need it. And when staff rotate, it walks out the door with them.
Similie Experts changes that.
Load your entire document archive and your team can:
✅ Search 17+ document formats in plain language and get cited answers instantly
✅ Ask questions as if talking to an expert who has read everything
✅ Draft new reports, proposals, and contracts grounded in your existing knowledge
✅ Preserve institutional knowledge across staff rotations
✅ Run 100% locally — no cloud, no data leaving the country, no internet required after setup
This isn't a SaaS subscription that sends your data overseas. It runs on your own infrastructure, in Dili, under your control. For NGOs and development partners, that means no more repeating research or losing knowledge when staff leave. For private companies, it means no more losing bids because the right information is buried somewhere no one can find. For everyone, it means full data sovereignty — your knowledge stays yours.

Our IoT Manager, Joao Bosco Liberty Nahak, recently spoke with RTTL World News about Similie’s mission to launch the nation’s first satellite. This CubeSat isn’t just tech—it’s a hands-on academy where students master electronics, data analysis, and payload design to become the innovators of tomorrow.
Beyond the classroom, this mission tackles vital local issues like climate monitoring, flash flood warnings, and smart agriculture. By capturing real-time data, we’re building tools to protect our environment and support our farmers from above.
We’re aiming for a launch within the next two years via a "rideshare" with international partners. We are actively seeking global experts and funding to help our local talent bridge the gap from students to space engineers. Let’s make history together!

A huge thank you to everyone who joined us for the Timor-Leste Action Network (TLAN) information session today. It was inspiring to see such a dedicated group of disaster risk reduction practitioners, government agencies, and humanitarian organizations coming together to strengthen our nation’s resilience.
We had some truly great discussions, particularly regarding community resilience and how integrated real-time monitoring and SMS-based alerting can directly safeguard lives across Timor-Leste. We also explored the power of IoT sensors and AI-powered forecasting to provide critical lead time for local communities through our early warning systems. Furthermore, the session highlighted the importance of cross-sector collaboration, navigating the essential pathways for the public and private sectors to work hand-in-hand to achieve our strategic climate adaptation objectives.
If you weren't able to make it but want to learn more about accessing high-integrity data and predictive tools for your organization, please reach out to us at [email protected]. You can also check out our website to learn more at https://similie.com/, we are building a more resilient Timor-Leste!

PRESS RELEASE
Similie and Civil Protection Authority (APC) Forge Strategic Partnership to Enhance Disaster Resilience in Timor-Leste.
DILI, TIMOR-LESTE, March 9, 2026 — Similie, a leading climate technology social enterprise , and the Civil Protection Authority (APC) of Timor-Leste have officially signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to strengthen national early warning systems and disaster risk reduction.
Under this agreement, both parties will establish a reciprocal framework for technical collaboration. The partnership focuses on the exchange of meteorological and hydrogeological data to improve the monitoring and analysis of natural hazards such as floods and landslides.
Similie will leverage its specialized infrastructure, including automatic weather stations (AWS) and its Multi-Hazard Early Warning System (MHEWS) portal, Parabl, to provide real-time data and automated alerts to government stakeholders and the general public. The APC, as the national reference entity for emergency response, will integrate these technological insights into its contingency planning, risk assessment, and public awareness initiatives.
"Our objective is to connect innovative, tailored solutions for data management and analysis with the essential mission of civil protection," said Ana Paula da Costa Xavier, CEO of Similie.
The collaboration also includes joint efforts in technical capacity building and research to ensure that Timor-Leste’s disaster management strategies are driven by scientific evidence.
