Protecting our seas requires sustained effort and commitment in the field. At Arkas Line, through the Blue Watch project carried out together with the Mediterranean Conservation Foundation, we are pleased to support the important work of marine guardians in the field.

So, what exactly do marine guardians do?

Through regular patrols in no-take zones, they issue warnings when they encounter illegal activities and report them to the relevant authorities. In this way, they contribute to the effective protection of these areas.

We will continue to support these valuable efforts in the field to help preserve Gökova’s unique ecosystem for future generations.

We continue to implement technical improvements focused on technology and operational excellence to enhance our fleet's environmental performance. Through our propeller retrofit projects, we reduced the propeller weight from 47 to 37 tons, decreasing hydrodynamic resistance and achieving fuel savings of up to 8%. With the added contribution of high-performance hull and propeller coatings, we have brought our total fuel savings to 15%. While increasing our operational efficiency, we are resolutely reducing our environmental impact.

Filomuzun çevresel performansını artırmak amacıyla teknoloji ve operasyonel mükemmellik odağında teknik iyileştirmeler gerçekleştirmeye devam ediyoruz. Pervane yenileme (retrofit) çalışmalarımızla pervane ağırlığını 47 tondan 37 tona indirerek hidrodinamik direnci azalttık ve yakıt tüketiminde %8'e varan tasarruf elde ettik. Yüksek performanslı gövde ve pervane kaplamalarının da katkısıyla toplam yakıt tasarrufumuzu %15 seviyesine taşıdık. Operasyonel verimliliğimizi artırırken çevresel etkimizi kararlılıkla düşürüyoruz.

Although lighthouses do not hold the same vital importance today as they did in the past, they still retain their role as a visual guide for sailors. Even today, with the widespread use of electronic navigation systems, they maintain their importance for wayfinding and safe navigation.

In the past, however, the situation was different. Lighthouses were not merely structures visible from afar, but also a warning, a guide, and a crucial reference point for sailors. Recognizing a lighthouse was possible not just by seeing its light, but by understanding how it flashed.

In maritime, this feature was called the "light characteristic." Some lighthouses would flash with a single light, while others flashed with groups of lights repeated at specific intervals. This rhythm helped sailors understand which coast they were approaching and what kind of route lay ahead of them.

Perhaps this is why lighthouses have always been one of the most important symbols of maritime history.

Deniz fenerleri bugün geçmişteki kadar hayati bir önem taşımıyor olsa da denizciler için görsel bir rehber olma özelliğini hâlâ koruyor. Elektronik navigasyon sistemlerinin yaygın olarak kullanıldığı günümüzde bile, yön bulma ve güvenli seyir açısından önemini sürdürüyor.

Geçmişte ise durum farklıydı. Deniz fenerleri yalnızca uzaktan görünen yapılar değil, aynı zamanda denizciler için bir uyarı, bir rehber ve önemli bir referans noktasıydı. Bir feneri tanımak, yalnızca onun ışığını görmekle değil, ışığının nasıl yanıp söndüğünü anlamakla mümkündü.

Denizcilikte bu özelliğe "ışığın karakteri" denirdi. Bazı fenerler tek bir ışıkla, bazıları ise belirli aralıklarla tekrarlanan ışık gruplarıyla yanıp sönerdi. Bu ritim, denizcilerin hangi kıyıya yaklaştıklarını ve önlerinde nasıl bir rota olduğunu anlamalarına yardımcı olurdu.

At the Green Office Award Ceremony we held at Arkas Sanat Alaçatı on August 13th, we celebrated our offices that are making a difference in our sustainability journey and the successes we have achieved.

With its successful performance across the criteria of environmental performance, social impact, data management, and employee participation, the winner of the 2025 Green Office Award is Arkas Hellas.

The award was presented by our Arkas Maritime Group President, Mr. Bernard Arkas, to the Managing Partner of ARKAS Hellas Group, Wanda Costopoulos. We congratulate Arkas Hellas!

"Nature and Sea" Photography Contest Winners

During the ceremony, we also rewarded the winners of our "Nature and Sea" Themed Photography Contest, which we organized as part of our Green Office initiative to strengthen our employees' creativity and environmental awareness.

🌿 Yeşil Ofis Ödülü Arkas Hellas'ın oldu!

13 Ağustos'ta Arkas Sanat Alaçatı'da düzenlediğimiz Yeşil Ofis Ödül Töreni'nde, sürdürülebilirlik yolculuğumuzda fark yaratan ofislerimizi ve elde ettiğimiz başarıları kutladık.

Çevresel performans, sosyal etki, veri yönetimi ve çalışan katılımı kriterlerindeki başarılı performansıyla 2025 Yılı Yeşil Ofis Ödülü'nün sahibi Arkas Hellas oldu.

Ödül, Arkas Denizcilik Grubu Başkanımız Sayın Bernard Arkas tarafından, Managing Partner Arkas Hellas Group Wanda Costopoulos'a takdim edildi. Arkas Hellas'ı tebrik ediyoruz.

Signal flags were once the common visual language of the sea. From the early days of the International Code of Signals, this system served as one of the primary means of communication between ships. As technology evolved, radiotelegraphy and radiotelephony became part of maritime communication alongside visual signals. Yet the flags remained – and today, they are still a recognized part of international maritime communication.
