MS TCDC (Training Centre for Development Cooperation) was founded in 1967 on the basis of a bilateral agreement between the governments of Denmark and Tanzania. For more than 50 years, we have delivered high quality capacity development in areas such as: democratic governance, human rights, transformational leadership, gender equality, youth participation and climate change governance. As a training institution, TCDC offers Professional Courses, Academic Courses
Swahili Courses and Cultural Orientation, Conference Facilities, Consultancy and Advisory services.

In development work, it can be easy to measure success by how many people we reach. But lasting social change is more than the people we mobilise. Communicating why we care, building leadership, intentional relationship building and being strategic to build collective power is what helps to create sustainable change.
Since 2024, the Social Justice Leadership Programme has brought together more than 100 participants from ActionAid leadership to explore how they can move beyond top-down programme delivery and move to rooted and community led programming.
Here are four lessons from the programme:
1. Start by learning from communities:
Communities hold knowledge, experience and perspectives that can challenge assumptions and strengthen how organisations understand an issue. Listening and learning from them can help to shape solutions more relevant to peopleโs realities.
2. Connect personal experience with a shared purpose:
Using the Marshall Ganzโs Public Narrative approach (Story of Self, Story of Us and Story of Now) can help to connect your experiences and values with what we share with others.
3. Invest in relationships:
Working with people is not only about reaching or involving them. Relationships create opportunities to build trust, understand what matters to people and strengthen meaningful engagement.
4. Create space for leadership to develop:
Creating opportunities for people to build confidence, take responsibility and support others can strengthen ownership and collective action.
Ultimately, working to bring social change is not only about what organisations can deliver. It is about creating the conditions for people to lead, organise and shape change themselves.
