As we commemorate , let's remember that tourism supports mountain gorillas conservation in ways many do not always see.

Around Bwindi and Mgahinga, tourism gives local people livelihoods, mostly in hospitality, which reduces their need to venture into the forest for food.

Revenue from gorilla permits, channeled by UWA, builds infrastructure in the communities and funds the ranger patrols keeping gorillas safe from poachers every day.

This World Tourism Day, remember that every visitor to Bwindi is part of the system holding gorilla conservation together.

"The One Health holistic approach is making a great difference in the field and an impact on the conservation efforts locally."

Our recent volunteer, Michelle Asbury, spent time with our community health team, learning about how we integrate the One Health model in gorilla conservation and community wellbeing.

She participated in our community work and recounts seeing the improvements over time in the community data and in the input of the community leaders, and took part in gorilla sample data analysis in our laboratory in order to identify where health intervention is required.

Hope you enjoy her World Gorilla Day message to you!

crossed the finish line on Saturday, the 19th of Sep!

Congratulations to our Bwindi rangers who completed the 21km run on very steep, hilly, rugged terrain, wearing 20 kg packs.

This is the final leg of this year's Wildlife Ranger Challenge, completed after weeks of training and activities that included the wildlife ranger quiz, push-ups, and sit-ups.

Thank you to everyone who has supported them so far. If you haven't yet, consider donating to support rangers with the items they need to safely and effectively do their work. Every donation between now and September 30 is matched dollar for dollar.

Today we're celebrating our Founder and CEO, Dr Gladys Kalema-Zikusoka, who has been nominated for the Indianapolis Prize, widely regarded as the most prestigious award in animal conservation, presented every two years by the Indianapolis Zoo.

Dr Gladys became Uganda's first wildlife veterinarian and has spent more than two decades pioneering and promoting the One Health approach in conservation. Her work, through CTPH, holistically ensures the wellbeing of mountain gorillas, livestock, the communities living around the mountain gorillas, and the ecosystem they share.

Under her leadership, CTPH's work with the Village Health and Conservation Teams, the Human Gorilla Conflict Resolution Teams, Community Animal Health Workers, Gorilla Conservation Coffee farmers and the wider community has shown that conservation succeeds when wildlife, livestock and human health are given equal consideration.

Congratulations, Dr. Gladys.
