A recent photowalk at Ggaba Landing Site along Lake Victoria turned into a powerful reminder that photography is about people as much as it is about images.

, , and myself were welcomed by warm market women, met a charcoal seller quietly supporting the cooking fires of the landing site, and found a mother running a humble food stall with her sons feeding fishermen and workers.

But deeper in the fishermen’s area, cameras brought tension. Years of outsiders documenting their struggles and never returning with solutions have created mistrust. What seemed like hostility was really frustration built over time.

From warm smiles to hard conversations, the day revealed the many sides of one community.

Sometimes the most important story isn’t just the photo captured, it’s the understanding gained behind the lens.
