According to reporting by Business Insider, a teenager named Michael Satterlee posted a low-budget Instagram video of himself using a can cooler to hold a Dr. Pepper. No production budget. No influencer deal. Just a novel product doing exactly what it does.
The video got 50 million views and nearly 2.5 million likes. His ecommerce company Cruise Cup now brings in up to $300,000 in monthly sales.
His advice for other brands: stop posting like a company. "People aren't just going to follow a product," he said. "What followers are is an audience." Disguise the business account. Track trends. Deliver content people actually want to watch. Build community first — sales are a byproduct of that, not the goal.
The second story in this piece is equally instructive. Kirk and Jacob McKinney founded Junk Teens — a junk removal service in Massachusetts and Rhode Island — as teenagers. They're on track for $5 million in revenue this year. And they didn't build their social following to find customers. They built it to find employees.
Their content shows what it's actually like to work there. 213,000 TikTok followers. 269,000 on Instagram. Most of their employees are high school or college students earning $25 to $30 an hour including tips — and many of them found the company through social media before they ever applied.
"A company is just a group of people at the end of the day," Kirk said. "When you see yourself in these videos and social media's capturing it, you're a part of that. It really elevates the culture."
By starting before they were ready, these teens got to learn from experience and adapt based on what’s actually happening, not what they think could happen. You don't need a budget or a perfect 5-year plan. You need to start.

Before he was MrBeast, he was an 11-year-old kid uploading videos from his bedroom. Now he's one of the most powerful media figures on the planet. 👇
MrBeast - aka Jimmy Donaldson - has more than half a billion subscribers across his YouTube channels. If you know him, it's probably for his extreme stunts and huge cash giveaways. If not, here's a cheat sheet to the "Mozart of the attention economy".
🚀 Early adopter. Born in 1998, Jimmy uploaded his first YouTube videos at age 11. After being diagnosed with Crohn's disease, he turned his attention from sports to building MrBeast.
🎓 The school of YouTube. Jimmy enrolled in community college, but spent much of his time studying the YouTube algorithm. He and his friends analysed thousands of thumbnails and viral videos, trying to reverse-engineer what makes content take off.
🎬 Signature stunt style. The MrBeast channel focused on extreme stunts with HUGE numbers. In 2017, Jimmy released an endurance video called I Counted to 100,000. It got 6.5 million views in a week. He later filmed himself reading every word in the dictionary.
💰 Focus on wealth. MrBeast's first brand deal paid $10,000 - and he gave it all away to a homeless man. Money became a cornerstone of his content: cash prizes, massive giveaways and acts of generosity, all filmed for his channel.
🔥 Fuelled by attention. In 2019, he made the most-liked video of the year, and just 12 months later was officially a millionaire. But Jimmy reinvested everything back into his channel, using the money to make even bigger and more ambitious content. His most expensive video cost $1.2 million to make.
🏢 From creator to empire. Jimmy now runs Beast Industries and is building a creator hub in his hometown. It operates more like a studio than a YouTube channel. He's also launched businesses including MrBeast Burger, the chocolate brand Feastables and a dedicated philanthropy channel.
MrBeast is estimated to be worth $2.5 billion - and he's still in his 20s.
