The launch of the sparked conversations on the role of research, technology and innovation in driving progress within the insurance industry.

In his remarks, the Guest of Honour, Joseph Sanjula Lutwama, Director of Financial Sector Deepening Uganda (FSD Uganda) emphasised the need to rethink how we approach research and the questions we seek to answer.

Drawing from his passion for research, Lutwama challenged researchers to look beyond historical data, noting that relying solely on the past can limit our ability to identify emerging gaps and anticipate future needs.

Adding to this perspective, Joseph Ndiho, the Executive Director at Service Cops Uganda highlighted the organisation’s role in advancing financial and digital inclusion, including developing tech-driven solutions that make it easier for people to access and pay for services digitally.

He emphasized the importance of developing with a clear purpose: moving beyond simply creating new technologies to developing solutions that can be commercialised to create meaningful impact in the society.

We appreciate Service Cops Uganda for their partnership and commitment to supporting the growth of the Hub over the next five years.

ITC Launches a Hub for Research and Innovation

At innovation conferences, we often leave with exciting ideas and commitments to do things differently. The challenge is turning those ideas into action.

For our Principal, Saul Sseremba, the launch of the Research and Innovation Hub is a step towards turning innovation ideas into practical action.

The Hub is about “walking the talk”— creating a space where ideas can be tested, developed and translated into solutions that address real insurance industry challenges.

Giving an overview of the , Samuel Sentumbwe, Manager, Research & Grants at , highlighted its ambition to bridge research, innovation and industry needs: creating a platform where insurers can bring forward industry challenges and collaborate with innovators to develop practical solutions.

To put this vision into practice, the inaugural Cohort will undergo a nine-month programme covering insurance, technology and innovation, before being placed in insurance companies to apply their learning to real industry challenges.

Through this approach, participants will move beyond training to gain hganda insurers ands-on experience in identifying challenges, exploring ideas and developing practical solutions within the insurance environment.

: Insurance Agents Fire Place

Sylvia Kajubi, the ITC Deputy Principal has highlighted the importance of creating spaces where Insurance agents can continuously learn, share experiences and mentor one another. She noted that the initiative, which began last year, supports agents’ development beyond technical knowledge. It equips them with soft and personal development skills.

Joshua Muyomba, the president of Uganda Insurance Agents Association (UIAA), encouraged agents to take pride in their profession, strengthen their networks and work together to build a stronger community**. He proposed an annual marathon/run to bring agents together, promote wellness and strengthen bonds within the profession.

With approximately 3,000 licensed insurance agents in Uganda, the conversation highlighted the opportunity to grow the profession, bring more people into insurance sales and strengthen the contribution of agents to Uganda’s insurance industry.
