POLITICS IS NOT A MAN’S SPACE.
Women belong at every level of political leadership — not only as voters and supporters, but as decision-makers, candidates and leaders.
Meaningful participation starts with:
🔹 Equal opportunity — women must have a fair chance to participate and lead.
🔹 Internal party democracy — political parties must create spaces where every member can be heard.
🔹 Strong women’s structures — women’s leagues and platforms can build confidence, networks and collective voice.
🔹 Leadership pathways — participation must translate into real opportunities to rise into leadership and decision-making.
When women have a seat at the table, political institutions become more representative of the communities they serve.
Politics is not a man’s space. It is everyone’s space.

WHAT DOES GOOD LOCAL GOVERNMENT LOOK LIKE?
Good local government is more than offices, meetings and policies.
It is government that listens to citizens, responds to community needs, uses resources responsibly and is accountable for its decisions.
It creates space for women, youth and communities to participate meaningfully in decisions that affect their lives.
At WLEDE, our governance work is built on a simple principle:
When citizens participate and leaders are accountable, communities are stronger.
So, what does good local government look like in your community?

WHAT WE HAVE LEARNED FROM WORKING WITH WOMEN LEADERS
Our work has taught us that meaningful leadership requires more than a position.
1. Confidence matters. Women need the confidence to speak, negotiate and lead.
2. Networks matter. Collective support makes women’s voices stronger.
3. Information is power. Knowledge enables women to advocate and demand accountability.
4. Safe spaces matter. Women need spaces to organise, learn and build solidarity.
5. Systems must change too. Empowering women means little if institutions remain exclusionary.
At WLEDE, we work to ensure women move beyond representation to meaningful influence.

Are women being heard?
Are their voices influencing decisions?
Are they shaping policies, priorities and the allocation of resources?
For WLEDE, meaningful participation means moving beyond simply having women present in councils, political parties and governance structures.
It means creating spaces where women have the confidence, knowledge, networks and influence to actively participate, speak up, negotiate and hold decision-makers accountable.
Through our governance work, WLEDE supports women and youth leaders to move from being represented to being influential — strengthening their capacity to engage in decision-making and advocate for the priorities of their communities.
Because a woman occupying a seat at the table is progress.
But having the power to shape what happens at that table is transformation.

🎓 Congratulations to the UACE Class of 2025! 🎉

The release of the Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (UACE) results marks an important milestone for thousands of young people across the country. Over 166,000 candidates sat for the examinations this year, reflecting the growing number of young Ugandans advancing to higher education and new opportunities. ()

At WLEDE, we celebrate every student who has worked tirelessly to reach this moment. To those who excelled—congratulations! Your hard work and resilience are inspiring.

To those who may not have received the results they hoped for—remember that one exam does not define your future. Your potential is greater than any single outcome.

We are especially proud to see young women continuing to shine and break barriers in education, reminding us why investing in girls’ leadership and education is so critical for Uganda’s future. ()

As we step into the weekend, let us continue encouraging and supporting the next generation of leaders, innovators, and change-makers.

💜 The future belongs to empowered youth.

🌸 Happy International Women’s Day 2026! 🌸

Today we celebrate the strength, resilience, and leadership of women across Uganda and around the world. Every day, women rise to lead families, build businesses, strengthen communities, and shape the future.

At WLEDE, we are proud to stand alongside women and youth leaders who continue to break barriers and create change in their communities.

This year’s theme reminds us that achieving equality requires action, justice, and opportunity for every woman and girl.

Let us continue working together to ensure that women’s voices are heard, their leadership is valued, and their potential is fully realized.

💜 When women rise, communities thrive.

For thousands of vendors in Kampala, street vending is not a choice — it is survival. It pays school fees, puts food on the table, and sustains families, especially those led by women. Recent eviction and relocation directives threaten these fragile livelihoods and deepen uncertainty.

At WLEDE, this moment reflects lessons from our work with vendors, including the 2021 Vendor Census, which showed the importance of inclusive, evidence-based planning. Development must protect dignity and livelihoods.

🟣 WLEDE stands with vendors and calls for dialogue, humane solutions, and inclusive cities.

A Lone Pilgrim’s Journey of Faith

Janan Luwum Day is a moment of reflection — honouring courage, sacrifice, and unwavering conviction.

This year, Thomas Tokwiny Mussolini completed an extraordinary 504-kilometre pilgrimage on foot from Kampala to Wii-Gweng.

Alone.
Without spectacle.
Driven by faith.

His quiet determination reminds us that Janan Luwum’s legacy lives not only in ceremonies, but in personal acts of devotion and resilience.

Sometimes, the most powerful tributes are made by one determined walker on a long road.

🎄✨ Season’s Greetings from WLEDE ✨🎄

This Christmas, we celebrate the strength of women — the backbone of our communities and the guardians of Uganda’s democracy. As the country prepares for upcoming elections, women continue to lead: organizing peacefully, voting with courage, speaking truth, and stepping forward to lead.

We thank our partners and donors for standing with us to amplify women’s voices and protect inclusive, peaceful participation in electoral processes. Together, we are shaping a future where women are not just voters — but decision-makers.

✨ Merry Christmas and a purposeful New Year! ✨
